Long story short my digicrap whammy is going to be sent in to a repair shop, I was wondering how well the ps-5 stacks up next to the whammy?
The main thing I like about the ps5 is the key selection for the harmony, in the digicrap you had to rock the tredel back and forth to chang between the settings 2 intervals, do you still have to do this with the ps5? Also is there another boss pedal that would work better like the hr line? |

The HR line consists of only one pedal (the hr-2). The harmonizing is somewhat unreliable in this pedal, and I find it to be kind of a pain to use, although it is a really cool pedal (and a good idea, it can add 2 intervals!). They kind of fixed the tracking issues and released what would be the sequel to the HR-2 in the harmonist function on the PS-5, which tracks pretty well and sounds OK. You just have to set the key and interval with the knobs on the pedal and the PS-5 will do the rest, no expression pedal or footwork needed.
In my honest opinion Boss needs to update their pitch shifter line and utilize the technology they now have to provide players with a better harmonizer. In their newest multi-effects the harmonizer functions seem to be pretty amazing, from the videos I have seen. If you absolutely want an alright sounding harmonizer that you will be using live, get the PS-5 because it is more reliable and easier to set up, plus it has a bunch of other functions that you can use if you have an expression pedal, or even without. If you want something for experimenting and ONLY want a harmonizer, get the HR-2, because it has some unique capabilities.
It seems like there aren't really any options in the way of harmonizers at the moment, but I am really hoping boss addresses this in their next line of pedals. They seem to be throwing innovation to the wayside as of late and releasing some pretty lame stuff (a few notable exceptions, I'm sure someone wil be quick to point out), you know what I mean. |

I don't know about the PS or HR pedals, but I do know that the Whammy 4 reissue is a piece of crap. It tracks like shit, and the pedal itself keeps shifting position. For instance, when you set it to harmonize up a fifth or anything, and let your foot off the pedal, then the pedal itself would shift causing the harmony to go out of tune I tried cranking the jolts on the treadle, I recallibrated it a hundred times, I even had it send back to Digitech, all with no success.
Needless to say, I sold it and never looked back. |

50 is a bargain. Mine was 65 and I thought that was a good deal.
I've never used a Whammy so I can't compare, but I'm pleased with my PS-5 for what it is. I always liked the Harmonist in my ME-50, and the PS-5 seems very similar. |

The harmonosier & pitch shifter on the GT8 are very good, and track very well. Even better with the built-in expression pedal. |

| Play as clean as possible, one note at a time and I think they all track well (as can be expected!) |

Compress before ANY pedal which tracks your playing and you'll get a smoother result. Don't overcompress.
How's the WH-1 on harmony? Anyone have one of these gems? |

Hi guitarfreak1387, PaulH & guys
I'll have to agree with PaulH.
Same goes for the Newer Zoom series, you can hear the shifted harmony on my track "Never", that was done with a Zoom G2.1u in real-time.
Some of the newer gear will allow you to set two shifted harmonies, & mix them with the unaffected tone of the guitar, for some really wild 3 part stuff.
I'm currently looking at the Digitech RP250 series. In the 150-250-350-450-550 series, they really increased the speed on the onboard microprocessor & DSP, before you balk at it, go have a listen, they also increased the resolution of the sampling, & did a fabulous job of the patch algorithms.
I know you have had a really bad time/relationship with the whammy 4, but it would be unwise to not look at this new range.
I'm seriously looking at moving to the RP250 or 350, budget allowing. But I would stay away from the non-50 range, of their gear. The processors at less than half the speed of the new range. Unless you go to the High End stuff in the GNX series.
Regards Dr. Bob |

| Don't get me wrong dr bob, I don't hate digitech but I don't love them also. If just had a few problems with a few of there pedals over the years. The whammys power supply has failed me around 4 times now, costing about 20 usd bucks a pop, and when I got it I filled out there register bs for a warenty only to find out they don't do that for the whammy 4, wich makes no sence seeing that it was 250 bucks for the unit and the cheaper x series have them. If also had problems with a few others but I won't get into that LOL, boss just seems Better to me ;-) |
