I also have a DM-2 with the same trace cut and diode. I own two DM-2's--one has the diode, the other doesn't. I'd be curious to know what the trace cut and diode is all about.

do they sound any different or is this mod not too "in your face"-ish?

Yes.... this is the real question. What is the difference in sound?

Welcome to the forum Basn!!

do both of your dm2's have the mn3101 or mn3102 opamp?
Starting to wonder if this a real Boss factory thing...

Maybe when it changed clock drivers in the DM2A to having the 3102 opamps, the diode was s 'fix', and redesigned the pcb with the DM2B versions.

Hi BASN

Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Perhaps the diode mod, was an interim fix in the Boss factory, until the next batch of modified artwork PCB's came in?

Hey Christo
Just a quick correction:
The MN3101 and MN3102 IC's are Clock Drivers for the BBD IC's
Not Op-amps.
I guess you're a bit like me, burning the candle at all 3 ends & getting a bit tired.

Perhaps you're just getting old, & suffering memory loss...

They have pills for that now, I just wish I could remember were I put mine...

Hello,
Both of my DM-2's have the 3205 chip. Of the two DM-2's, the one "without" the diode sounds better. I doubt that the diode has anything to do with the slightly lower sound quality, I just think that some of the components in that particular pedal are old, worn out, and need to be replaced.....speaking of which....has anybody ever done a "cap job" on a DM-2, and if so, did it result in a significant improvement in the overall sound quality? I'd like to hear from anyone who's done an overhaul on any of their pedals. I'm considering overhauling one or both of my DM-2's but I'd like to hear from some of you before I jump into the project . Any thoughts, suggestions, or feedback would be welcome.
Thanks.

Hold the phone, I just realized that I made a mistake in answering a question posted by someone earlier on--the poster asked whether or not both of my DM-2's had the MN3101, or the MN3102 chip--the "correct" answer to that question is that both of my DM-2's have the "MN3102" chip.
Sorry about that.

Hello MullyFX--were you asking "me" if I'd post a photo of the two DM-2 circuit boards, or were you addressing that request to someone else? If it was me that you were addressing, please let me know--I'd be happy to snap and send a photo--(that is if I can figure out how to upload a JPEG image to this site).

Hi BASN

Any chance you might take some close-up pics of the PCB's
track side & component side?
Of both your DM-2's

We could then do a comparison, & see what the difference is?

Hello DR. Bob,
The answer to your question is--"Yes"--I'll submit photos of the DM-2 circuit boards. I tried uploading a JPEG image to this site earlier today but was unsuccessful. I'm not sure how to go about uploading images this site--(or any website for that matter)--but I'll give a shot. I'll need a few minutes to edit the photos I just finished shooting--then I'll jump back on and try to upload the images.

Hi Basn,

yeah sorry.. I was asking you... should've made that clear.

I always use imageshack.us to upload my pictures and copy the direct links into this field and frame this link with [img] tags (you can generate these by highlighting the link and clicking on the picture symbol up top

Hello DR. Bob,
I have the DM-2 circuit board photos ready but once again I'm unable to upload them. If you're able to contact me via email I'll send you the photos as an email attachment and you can post them if you'd like. Thanks.

Final Posting of the night--I need sleep! For anyone who might have an interest in the photos of the two DM-2 circuit boards I'll try uploading them (again) when I wake up. For what it's worth, I'm willing to email the photos to anyone who contacts me via email--(something to consider).
Thanks

Hi BASN

PM sent.

Here is a link to the thread on:
How to upload & display pictures on the forum.
http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4015

If you keep your pics about/or under 600x800 pixels or under 250K to 300K.
It will reduce the timeout problems with the server.

If you have successfully uploaded the pics earlier, let me know the file names & I will display them in one of your posts.

Regards Dr. Bob
