Hi, I have a Boss PN-2 Tremolo/Pan, and I'm having a problem with the power source. It works fine with a 9V battery, but when I use it with my Visual Sound 1 Spot, when the pedal is activated, it boosts the volume up. I've tried with a friends voodoo labs power source, and the same thing happens. Any idea how to solve it?
Thanks.

I'm not the most technical member of the forum, but it can be the fact that you don't use a Boss adaptor. I'm not sure, but I don't think they put "use only Boss ACA or PSA adaptor" on the pedals for nothing.

how much of a volume boost is there?

i've got two PN-2s and they both have a very slight volume boost; i always thought it was intentional - to counter the perceived volume drop of the tremolo effect.

i've used various power supplies (Boss PSA and other brands and there isn't a difference in operation). i've never used a battery with mine though.

maybe the fact that the volume wasn't boosted with battery power is because the battery is running at less than 9v... maybe.

Thats odd, on the site for the Visual Sound 1 Spot says it can handle the Boss PSA (and ACA) pedals

kpd78 sounds like he's got the answer, you were so use to the battery suppied sound, the adapter sound was what it was suppose to sound like.

as long as the spec of the power supply is correct, it's usually fine to use other makes...

i've got a couple of Electro-Harmonix pedals which each came with a power supply... in the instructions for both pedals it says to only use the provided EHX power supply...

the provided power supplies (i bought the pedals new) do not even say Electro-Harmonix on them... they're both identical and say "AC/DC Adaptor. Replacement for Boss and Ibanez."

where a manufacturer says to only use their own power supply, it's usually to protect themselves in the event of user error (the wrong spec'd PSU could damage the pedal) or to boost their own sales (if the PSU has to be bought separately.

There is a noticeable volume boost, specialy on the square wave tremolo. I thought, as you said, that the battery was running at less than 9v, but I bought a new one and same thing happens.. It's a bit annoying, since batterys doesn't last too much on this particular pedal, and I have to be changing them a lot.
