The new Behringer stompboxes are priced at $20-$30. I'm not sure if any of these are out on the street yet. Anyone have any first impressions? How's their build quality?

They haven't hit the street here in LA as far as I know, but from what I've heard, they're in plastic boxes with cheap control knobs and jacks. They are, for the most part "allegedly" direct knockoffs of Boss pedals. I still want to give them a try though.

There was some talk about Roland suing Behringer for the design. Not sure if Behringer has made changes to them since or not. In plastic boxes I have a feeling they won't be that popular in the long run.

Yeah, I remember seeing the "concept drawings" for the intended line and they were straight knockoff of the Boss enclosures, right down to the font that displayed the model names. I later read something about Boss issuing a threat of legal action of some sort before the boxes were changed.

Regarding the plastic enclosures, I'm not certain on that, just going on info from other forums on that one.

I just checked the Behringer site for updates on when we can expect to see these pedals. They are now stating that the pedals will be "Available 3rd Quarter 2005". I have my doubts about whether we'll ever see these pedals on the market. Originally they were supposed to be available before the end of the 1st quarter, then it was 2nd quarter, now this. I'm guessing that the designs will change again or they'll myusteriously disappear from their website. There may be something going on behind the scenes involving legal actions. Even though I'm very curious about them, I won't be holding my breath for their release.

I didn't notice about the new shipping date. It doesn't surpise me if they're desperatly changing all their designs to avoid litigation.

And I'm sure that Roland/Boss is keeping a close eye on them as well!

Just saw a whole batch of the new (slightly redesigned) Behringer pedals on an eBay store. Selling at around Oz $50 - I'm guessing they're absolute shite in terms of build quality. I wonder how many claims will be made on the 12 month warranty? I wonder if I can really pass up on a $50 DD-3 clone? Less than $5 a month....

You can see them at www.thomann.de

They're still such a blatant ripoff of the Boss line, same models, same control layout, same colours on most of them, and having an overdrive/distortion pedal plus a line selector which I think is pretty unique to boss.

OH! and the chromatic tuner looks IDENTICAL

WOW they do look like boss pedals! the pricing is cool but the only one of the bunch I'd ever even think of buying is the preamp-booster. all the other ones i'd have no use for. By the way, why doesn't Boss make a preamp-booster? I think that ppl would eat it up if Boss made one. Anyone elses thoughts on that idea would be greatly appriciated.

They have changed the design a bit since they were shown last year but they're still very similar to Boss. The controls and labeling looks very similar if you compare i.e. the Behringer DD-100 and a DD-3.

I can't remember the preamp booster exactly, but isn't it their SD-1 clone?

Alot of the controls do look like boss pedals. thr reverb pedal is basically the RV-5. For the money they don't look too bad, but the tone of the pedals may lack somewhat.

Yes, they are made of plastic. Some models are available at thomann.de
and first reviews appeared at harmony central, or to be more precise, here :

A few of these have turned up on eBay in the last week or so and they're WAY cheap.

Bought myself the Behringer tremolo yesterday, very cheap.
It looks sturdy but its all plastic and to me its very fragile, I wouldnt use it on a gig.
The pots and jacks are soldered directly to the PCB, this means that if you place your foot on the wrong place they are brooken and very hard to repair.
To change battery is a frustrating thing to do, this is not good at all. Stubid idea someone have had. This is also a weak point, those spring-loaded things looks fragile.
Inside are very few components, an IC and a couple of electrolytics.
The pedal sounds OK, not much noice, but the Boss tremolo is clearly better.
Conclusion: This is for home-use, but as the price is so low give them a try. Ibanez Sound-tanks are much better quality-wise, they are also plastic.
