| Looking to mod my DF-2 by removing the distortion circuit so that I can have clean feedback + a clean boost. Any advice would be appreciated. I hear the DF-2 circuit is similar to a DS-1. |

Hi solewheelin Interesting project. I'll be keen to watch your progress on this one. Do you have the Schematics for the the DF-2? Or are you trying to figure it out on your own?
BTW - Please don't mod one of the rarer Super Distortion Feedbacker versions. I hope you will be working on a Super Feedbacker & Distortion version.
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Solewheelin,
Try removing D2 and D3 and replacing with jumpers. These diode are the ones responsible for clipping the signal, producing distortion. Like Dr. Bob, I would like to see your progress.
I've modded this pedal using Monte Allums DS-1 "Roxx" mod, and it brought the pedal alive...

Hi solewheelin
I know it's really way too late here at my end, & I may have missed something.
But I think what MervsMods was trying to say was to just remove the diodes. or lift one end, so they are out of circuit.
If you replace the diodes with jumpers/links. You will be shorting the signal out of the opamp to ground.

Thanks Dr. Bob,
I was just in the shower and I thought that if he jumpered the diodes he WOULD short the signal to ground. I have a schematic floating around here somewhere and I'll post it when I can find it..

Hi mervsMods Please do not directly post complete, commercial & copyright schematics to a forum thread.
There is a links thread in the Mods & Technical, if you want to use that.
Bossarea Admin is pretty strict on that issue.
And respectfully, I have asked other members to remove, & not post commercial mod lists to the forum. One was even for the business that you perform modifications for.
Yes we do slip up now & then. but what you do in PM is up to you.
Regards Dr. Bob &/on behalf of Bossarea Admin.

Dr. Bob,
Yes Sir. I have found the copy of the schematic, and will e-mail it to solewheelin if he would like, or anybody else who reads this thread....

Hey thanks for the replies. I am well schooled on rare versions of boss pedals, so I do know about the "lawsuit" DF-2s. Mine is not one of those, and its missing the sticker on the back along with a couple of screws. I just figure that if I did what I understood to be a simple mod to this pedal, it would make the pedal more useful for me. I knew I only had to lift a diode which I can do with no sweat. Just was not sure which one(s). Thanks |

Well, I lifted D2 and D3 clipping diodes and while it did not completely remove the distortion from the circuit, the pedal boosts cleaner with the distortion turned off. I'm glad I did this mod. Now to add some delay.. Thanks for the help as always!

I wanted to do this same thing years ago and everyone at the time said the circuit was too complicated to easily manipulate. My how times have changed.
Anyway, I was thinking about this a few months ago and came across:
http://www.fxdoctor.com/site/df2.html
The guy claims to be able to 100% remove the distortion, and for $40, I think I'm gonna give it a try soon enough. |
