Im getting a bass this friday, but whilst im in im also gonna be trading in some old effects and gear that i dont want, hopefully im gonna have enough in the trade in for a couple of new Boss pedals, as im getting a bass i would like input on all the new bass pedals, altho i know that the ODB-3 is pretty usless as i had one ages ago as my first pedal ever, since sold tho.
Im gonna get a bass pedal if i cant get both the MT-2 and OD-3 tho, but would still like opinions on them.
Starting with the CEB-3 and the OC-3 im intrested in for now. |

| CEB-3 is a great choice. I'd think about a SYB-5 as well. |

| def look into getting the LMB-2 aswell. you can really get your bass to 'thump' without the sound flapping all over the place. |

| I agree, the ODB-3 is pretty useless. IMHO, you should find an old FZ-2 and put it in a loop (via a LS-2?) such that you can blend the straight bass sound with the fuzztone (and retain the low frequencies, which would otherwise be rolled off by the FZ-2)... it's the thickest, hairiest, most saturated bass tone I've ever heard. |

Yeah, definetely true, although I sometimes use an old CS-3 for the same purpose.
The older CE-2b chorus sound fine too, as well as the BF-2b flanger if you can find a use for it anyway.
I actually got a good sound out of the ODB-3, as long as you keep the gain level and treble setting low, and the balance towards the clean side.
Burying bass under a pile of fuzz may sound great on its own, but in a band situation with loud guitars and cymbals it usually doesn't work anymore.
If you want to use distortion, then opt for a lighter overdrive type sound, the ODB-3 is also great for simulating one of those old tube amps with a nice overdrive sound (SVT, bassman, Marshall superbass/think Motörhead).
On a sidenote, some guitar pedals sound just as fine, the regular BF-2 flanger and the DD-3 delay for instance, just experiment with it.
If it sounds good to you and it works in a band and with the type of music you play then there are no set rules.

Thanks for the replys, im gonna be using my SD-1 in my bass rig when i get my bass anyways for overdrive.
For a bass amp im gonna be using my Line 6 Pod X3 so i am well covered for sims of many diffrent amps as well.
At the moment im just wanting a good distortion and chorus, maybes the LMB-3 as well, but i would like to know what like that is for dual use with my guitar as well.

i really rate my CEB3(s - i have two!)
for a really bass heavy fuzz, try the HM2. They're normally pretty cheap on ebay! however, good luck trying to find NOS! |

| like any other thread asking for opinions, i think i'll say get an XT-2...and man, what a shame ragging on the ODB-3...it's so great, well, with guitar at least... |

Hi.
I have to stick up for ODB-3. I haven't found any problems with it at all. I'm playing a Fender Jazz & Precison USA Deluxe 5's through it and into a Trace Elliot AH200. The fact that the basses are active might help but before I bought the ODB-3 I was going through a BD-2 and I could do nothing with it. I'm not playing really heavy and it isn't on all the time but it suits me. |

I have checked most my guitarpedals for bassusuage and here is what I like:
CE2 for thick chorus, just some vanilla on your regular sound.
DC3 very nice and versatile, able to get many sounds with this one.
CS1 good as well, but not as good as the ones mentioned above.
As far as overdrive and distortion:
OD1 great for that classic overdrive sound, may be good idea to use the LS2 as well to keep in touch with your orginal dry bass sound.
HM2 great for all kinds of sounds, and very versatile.
MT2 , like the HM2 but even with more soundvariations.
Other pedals apart from Boss: Peal Chorus, great and very versatile.
Some of the DOD choruspedals are good as well.
The RAT is great as distortion, can get very extreme too.
MXR distortion plus is great too, very bright this one!!
Oh someone mentioned it before: Boss XT2, yes certainly very good, think HM2 but more options and more midrange. The PW2 is good as well, but just one sound really.
I will create another specific thread about using guitarpedals for bass, so you can check that one as well.
In the meantime enjoy playing songs on your bass. |
