Anyone have any playing time with either?
From the descriptions I think I want the Pink Flesh. But....now that it's no longer available I don't want to pay the price for one. That said, if someone wants to trade for one I have some pretty desirable Boss pedals in my possession.
Anyway my question for the group is everyone�s impression of both. I love the early DG sounds but I love the smoother later era stuff (less fuzzy). I was wondering if I could get close to the Pink Flesh via the Lunar Module.
I know, wrong tool for the job. But just wondering.

sorry bro' never came across these before...checked him out he has some heavy hitters using his gear...i'm assuming he's based stateside so maybe some of the Bossarea brothers in your neck of the woods will wade in here....you think he's genuine about discontinuing the pedals over a part sourcing issue...? could be trying to up their profile by driving up secondhand prices.?..you could alway go down the Tube Driver route thats what Gilmour uses these days or sometimes a Big Muff or pete cornish soft sustain pedal(custom big muff i think)...in around 'Animals' and 'The Wall' he had a Coloursound power booster..their being made again to original specs in london again i think......
i know this doesn't answer your original question but it might give you some food for thought..... |

Hey Franzoni.
After a number of unsuccessful purchases (see my Keeley & A'man ds-1's that I'm considering selling on another thread), I've come to the conclusion that I'm looking for a fuzz/muff option.
I'm all set on OD / Tube screamer with an AnalogMan Boss SD-1 TS-808/Silver mod w/ symmetrical/asymmetrical clipping. (Awesome BTW).
I've been using a Rat 2 that actually gets me pretty close. But I think I could get closer to the sound in my head.
I spoke to Marc (Skreddy) and asked him the same question posed here.
I asked about overlap on the Lunar and if he knew of any competitor�s product that came close to the PF.
Per Marc: The Pink Flesh is just a vintage-style Big Muff Pi with a tone stack
that boosts the mids rather than scooping them.
Instead of suggesting the Lunar to do this he suggested his �Top Fuel pedal to get close to David's more modern lead tones.�
He also suggested the BYOC Large Beaver for Gilmour tones. He said: �it's just a Big Muff with modern components, but the newest version has a switchable tone stack that includes a mid-boosted version.�
I asked for a competitor but he didn�t have to give me one. Pretty classy IMO.
I'll take him at his word: he couldn't find the parts to get the same sound so instead of BSing or compromising on sound quality, he�s moving on.
That said, in my conversation with him here is what he said about the exact concept not currently being available:
�I'll probably end up making something again which is the same idea; I've just been so busy trying to keep up with production. But I'm sure I could make another smooooth, sustaining Big Muff style fuzz and not have to worry about vintage components.�
Not sure what I�m going to do. If a pink flesh fell into my lap I�d be thrilled but I�m not going to pay $500 for one.
So for right now I�m mulling over the BYOC Large Beaver or the Top Fuel. I don't know.....

Sounds like a good guy....... ....Jack is well up in the BYOC forum and has built some of their stuff so he could tell you more and you know that people here would wade in with advice on any problems during the build if you wanted to go that route.... don't be a stranger let us know how you get on..... |

As far as the BYOC Muff, I just got finished last week making the newer versions of the Muff with the tone-stack. I made one to Triangle spes, another to Rams Head specs, and the last one to Skankin Pickle specs. I like the Rams Head and Triangle versions so far, as they are the most flexible. The Skankin Pickle version sounds good, but I don't think its as flexible as far as the variety of sounds, but keep in mind I haven't had too much time to play with them, but those are my first impressions.
As far as soldering, I really suggest you learn how because its not that hard, and once you learn how to do it, you can do most of your own repairing, modding, and building yourself, not only saving you money, but perhaps making some money working on other peoples stuff as well.
Also, there is a sale going on at BYOC right now, I believe its a buy 2 get one free sale until the 31st of Jan (When you check out, enter "wintersale" in the coupon code box)...Plus first time builders/buyers get a free confidence booster kit, which is basically a simple, but useable circuit to practice on before attempting the kit. If you for whatever reason cannot get the confidence booster build successfully completed, as long as you don't open the other kits up, you can send them back to get a refund (or at least it used to be this way, you may need to double check on that if interested). | I just bascially started by doing internet searches. There's some good videos on YouTube. One one of the Telecaster forums I go to, there is a member named Terry Downs who has a highly recommended (though I have yet to check it out personally) video on soldering geared towards guitarists, and he may have a website, so that may be worth googling too. If you have a local Radio Shack, you can get the stuff down there to get started for about $20-30. When I got started on BYOC, they didn't have the Confidence Booster, so I just ordered some soldering practice kits off the internet where you make a siren or blinking lights. I found that by practicing soldering on something else before getting the BYOC kits, I was not as nervous on my first builds... |
