Ok, My HM-2 I believe has given up the ghost and after shedding many tears I'm on the lookout for a replacement. I want either another HM-2 or an MT-2, but I'd just like to know how they compare? I wont be using it for metal (very rarely atleast) so that's not what I'm looking for, I just really like the thick fuzzy sound the HM-2 makes and wonder if the MT-2 can replicate this in any way, and be more versatile in the process? Thanks |

With my setup (Strat with SCN) my MT-2 sounds like 80s Marshall-type crunch/distortion - depending on how much drive I dial in. It can get real heavy if you play with the EQ - especially the parametric middle EQ settings.
I like it for the 80's sound best though. I also love the "matt" look of the case!
Hope that helps. |

| I do like the Marshall (JCM 800ish) sound, I'm just concerned it will go all Ratt and Poison on me, thanks for your help though. |

You can probably set it to Ratt and Poison, but to me, the MT-2 is a bit more of a high octane beast. I thought the stock MT-2 was a good metal sound, but then I got it modded by Keeley. Now, at least for me, its my poorman's Laney/Soldano in a box, cause the sound I get from it that reminds me of Matt Pike from High On Fire's sound. |

| That sounds pretty cool, theough I'm pretty much against modding. I do like stoner rock/metal (Especially Kyuss/Fu Manchu) but it's not really what I'm after. Thanks |

| I'd like to get my hands on some dead BOSS pedals; they'd sure make keen project boxes for homemade effects.. especially if silkscreen or brushed down to metal & sealed with clearcoat. |

I remember reading an article with the guitarist of VoiVod (either Piggy, Snake, Away, or the 4th guy who's name I always forget) back in the late 80's and he mentioned how he (or his tech) would take old Boss pedal enclosures, gut them, and then put the guts from his preferred effects into the Boss enclosures due to there relative indestructibility. |

my opinion simply is if you dont want the pedal to play metal, dont get the MT-2. if you like the kinda low, full sound, stick with the HM-2 |

| I think that seems the best option. Does anyone want to buy a broken HM-2 for that matter? I've had some interest already. |

| I just got my MT2 modded by Keeley, and I am totaly happy with it. It is a very tweakable pedal, so I am still trying to sort out different tones available in it. As far as full on metal crunch, killer low end, and very low noise, you can't go wrong with it. |

| Unless I'm playing clean, noise really isn't an issue, I quite like it to be honest. Thanks for all the comments, though I think i'll go for the HM-2. |

some people say the md-2 sounds close to the hm-2, only with more gain...
go try one if you can. |

ya the MD-2 is an often overlooked pedal. i see it as the big brother to the HM-2. its not quite as dark, but it can cover a wide array of distortion sounds. |
