Legendary Toronto blues guitarist and old-style jazz afficionado Jeff Healey died yesterday, March 2 2008, in Toronto's St. Joseph's Hospital after a lifelong battle with a rare form of cancer retinoblastoma that blinded him in his first year. He was 41.
There are tears in all the "Angel Eyes" now.

Damn! Jeff Healey was a brilliant player. Didn't know his blindness was caused by cancer.

Buddy Miles died last Tuesday. This is a crap week

What the f**k.... i was only listening to an album i got a couple of years ago as a present called ..'jimmy rogers all stars'..basically jimmy was muddy waters guitar player and fellow song writer in muddys original band in chicago in the 50's...a few years ago a load of top players including jeff, the stones, clapton, page and plant, kim wilson, stephen stills and a load of others got together to record an album to show jimmy how much they appreciated him and the first song on it was jeff healey playing 'blow wind blow' with jimmy and thinking to myself the he really had the chicago blues tone nailed on this track with his sound and his licks....this is a really bad loss for electric guitar and blues as well.... RIP jeff.... i was also sad to read here that buddy is gone to join his friends jimi and noel in the great gig in the sky...... this ones for them all....

Shocked and saddened to hear of the loss yesterday morning. A great player and, by all accounts, a great man. Surely one of the players who helped me "See the Light".

I also did not know about his death.
Only a few days ago I think I heard a song from a new album, or perhaps a compilationablum. It was played on Bob Harris Radio Two show for the BBC here in the UK.

I have seen Jeff once, it was in 1994, great show, great player and yes, pitty that he left so soon, way too soon really.

According to the CBC, Jeff had a new album that was to be released soon. I first took up the guitar around the time Jeff Healey hit the Canadian scene. His way of playing looked like it might be easier than the normal way, so I tried, for a short time, to play with the guitar sitting on my lap Dobro fashion. Let me assure you that it is NOT easier to play, ala Jeff Healey

I can imagine that playing guitar in your lap is not easier.
Jeff started out using alternative tunings as he thought that was the way to tune the guitar. Later on he started using the conventional tuning.
