Yes it is! DD-6 is very different - and I don't like it. I've got two DD-5 and one DD-3. What I love about DD-3 is the analog-like handling of the delay-time pot. I tried the DD-6 when it came out and brought it back the next day. It can't compete with DD-5 imho.
Am I really missing out on much with my DD-6? There are just some pedals that people call the best & will never let go..
Are you missing out?
Let me just go into the soundquality of the DD2,DD5 and DD6:
All three sound fairly similar [I am very critical, do hear differences in the various DS-1's and SD-1's but with the delays I feel their soundquality is almost the same.
There are different versions of the DD3 and some claim they be more digital sounding than the DD2.
Now take the DD2 and compare to a newer DD5 and DD6, the sound is almost the same. Real difference is in delaytime and extra features on the DD5 and DD6. For delaytime, what the DD3 and 2 offer is enough really.
If you like doing tests for yourself, find yourself a DD2 as their are plenty around on Ebay and other places on the second hand market.
I was running my DD-3 in tandem with my PS-2 last night.. and I found that the pitch shifter was a pretty useable delay - 2000ms top speed, MIJ, tuner-out..
Do the tech-heads here know what chip is in the PS-2 and how it differs from the DD-3 (MIJ)?
