Hi FRAZONI, I have an old handmade cab loaded w/two 15's. The guy I bought it from used it for bass. While I wouldn't use it alone, it does add bottom end plunk to my single coil fenders! It's loaded w/JBL's and I power it w/ an old Lafayette PA. I also use a powered subwoofer now and then, but that's a 12 inch. |

| A 15" will add alot of low end to it. check out a fender demo on youtube the have the normal 12" and they also have a 15" model the 15 will put a little more bass into the tone |

I use Victorias with 15" speakers and they sound great, even with my chosen hollowbodies. And I still have plenty of high end to work with tonally. I recommend to anyone, try out a 15" speaker with your guitar. |

I've got a Peavey Delta Blues that I used to gig with - it's a great amp but be sure to keep the boost switch in to get it cooking. Here it is in action at a sound-check to prove it (just an excuse to bang in a picture!! )

It's a cracking amp for classic valve tones, both clean and overdriven (stick a TS9 in front of it and it is so smooth) and I only replaced it in my live rig with a JVM because the Marshall tone was more suited to what we do now.
If I had the time, I would probably change my rig to bi-amp between the two and use the Peavy for clean tone and the Peter Green bluesy stuff. Nice vibrato too and reverb but strangely the footswitch can't be used to turn the reverb on & off!
The single 15" certainly gives it some balls that really comes through if you get it off the deck and mic it up properly and out through a decent PA.
As you know I'm mainly a humbucker player but I hope this helps - please fire in any other questions if you want to. Happy to talk about this some more.
(PS: please see your PM on an entirely separate thing. Cheers)

Thanks guys....
I was supposed to go look at a Vox amp tonight(guy rang and put it off till tomorrow) a 1x12 50 watt tube amp from the 80's..i found a brand new Emenince Delta 15 speaker in the van we had forgot about and looking at the vox i reckon it would fit no bother as i heard the speaker it comes with (if still stock) is pretty crappy...remember i already use a two 1x12's loaded with Celestion V30's for the stereo stuff from the rack so i still have two 12's in my rig... i was thinking a mix of speakers might be good....if i get it i might even split it and build a cabinet for the amp and a cab for the speaker and put the original amp cab in storage i could use my old 2x12 cab with the greenbacks that i use with the marshall head if i wanted as well instead of the Emenience 15...
Silvertone and The_Doc ...what speakers have you got in your amps...i think the peavey came originally with the blue marvel speaker are they still stock..? ............

From a PA/mixing perspective... my experience has been that it is necessary to cut some of the bass out of a mic-ed up 15, otherwise it muddies the mix a bit and doesn't cut properly.
I can't say for sure, but through a PA by taking out some of the bass it might be bringing it back to sounding like a 12 "out the front".
On the other hand, stand-alone a 15 has a lot of balls ... |

Hi Laurie
The only reason i was thinking of the 15" was because i have it in with the band gear lying idle...!! and the amp loks big enough to accomodate it..never used a 15" before for guitar and if i get the amp tomorrow(hopefully) i was going to experiment with the 15" rather than springing for a brand new 12"...i knew that SRV had used vibroverbs with 15's alongside his super reverbs with 10's and i found this clip on youtube where this guy was using the Peavey delta blues with a 15 the same as The_Doc's....nice clean sound..

Mine definitely has the Blue Marvel in it Franz and, although it will be around 3 years old soon, I expect that is still the stock spec.
You make a good point about the PA Laurie - that may well have happened when I've used mine live. Twiddling all those knobs and sliders FoH is a black art to me - I just play the blues and let the people who know what they're doing get on with all that good stuff!
PS: forgot to say - that vid clip is true to the clean sound that you can get out of the Delta Blues - I used to run either a CS-2 or a Keeley 2 knob compressor with mine and that was sweet too. |

| Dimebag used 15's i've read in the book "totally guitar, the definitive guide" that dimebag used the Randall "warhead Stack" using celestions 12 in one cab and the other cab had 15" Jaguar Speakers, not a big fand of the sound of dimebag (i think that he's kinda overated), but he was really good. |

Franzoni, I have three Vics with 15s in 'em. A Victorilux and a newly-acquired Trem d'la Trem each have Eminence Legend speakers, while the Regal has a Weber speaker. I can't really pick a favorite between the two speaker makes, and I'm still shaking down the Trem d'la Trem amp...but they all sound great. |

Dimebag may have used those 2x12 with a 1x15 cabs, but they were initially designed/made for Scott Ian of Anthrax. |

Hi Guys As Laurie will attest. During my recent vacation, I was just 2 or 3 heartbeats off buying a NOS (black tolex) Peavey Delta Blues amp - with the 15 inch speaker.
The reverb was not working properly - & the stores dealer offered it to me at a more than substantial discount. I even had permission from the better half to go ahead with the buy, if I felt like I need to.
(You have to love Mrs. Dr. Bob for being so understanding of GAS) Even though she doesn't know what it's an abbreviation for.

Just to let you know how things panned out... first off the seller turned out to be a bit ummm ...unreliable... i made an arrangement to go look at the amp at a time that suited him not me.... right at the start of rush hour and he lives about 20 miles away across the other side of the city...on my way across as he requested i rang him as he had offered to meet me outside a local pub in his area we both knew as he said his house was a bit hard to find..didn't answer the phone as i was on route after i made several calls....hadn't the manners to ring back instead texted to say he had been called back into work at the last minute, this is with me on route in rush hour traffic (lucky i have a taxi plate so i can use the bus lanes)......i got another text late last night, just before I had to go to work saying he had another guy coming to look at it and if i wanted it i better be quick...i come across this before ..you go out and then they say make an offer as they have someone else coming to look at the amp later, and try start a bidding war instead of the original price it was offered for, happened to me on a old Trace Elliot combo i was looking at a few years back...needless to say i didn't bite...pity as i had plans for it with the spare 15" we have in the band van.. as i think the big problem with that vox amp is the speaker is crap and can't handle the output....

P.S. heres the ad....to be honest i'm sick of looking at amps now i'm just gonna bite the bullet and get the Marshall serviced and put right as it's a brillant amp and i love its sound,i'll make or buy a flightcase for it to protect it.... and gets it kudos from any guitar player thats tried it(a lot of that is to do with the original Greenback speakers in the cab)...usually followed by a phone number if i'm ever selling it... ..i just hope i don't get a bill like The Brut did after he got his amps serviced.... ...... |

Wise decision, my friend.
Oh, and 15 inchers are for bassplayers only. |
