hello guys.
you might want to try this mod. the way i hear it, it smoothed the gain, made it creamier, and not too compressed in the mids. more range in the drive knob.
just solder a .47 uf cap across d8 and d9 on your hm-2.

Hey guys,

id really like to try this mod it will be the first one ive ever done. since im a complete noob at modding i kinda got lost at "just solder a .47 uf cap across d8 and d9 on your hm-2."
does that just mean i get the cap connect one end in 8 and the other in 9 then solder? or am i suppose to remove what was already in those coordinants? yeah im a mechanical engineer shoulda took electrical!

yeah thanks for that but i still dont get what you guys mean by saying "across" like d8 and d9 each have a starting hole and an ending one... see i dont know what im talking about here lol do i put the cap in the starting holes... or the ending... or do i criscross it? do i leave the old stuff in or should they be removed? haha i just dont want to ruin my hm-2 so im being cautious lol

I think Leonard d rock means to solder a cap across both diodes, one each so to speak, parallel, leg to leg.

Hi Ptak, Dirk & leonard d rock

Diodes D8 and D9 are in parallel, actually anti-parallel,
you only need to solder the cap across either (one) of the diodes.

If you solder solder one cap across each, it will still work.
but you have just effectively made a capacitor of twice the valve.

Caps in parallel are additive.
0.47uf + 0.47uf would = 0.94uf or nearly 1uf in this theoretical case.

There is already a 0.001f cap ( C16 ) in parallel with D8-D9 as well.
you are just adding a much larger value to (smooth) the clipped signal out more.

In fact it may be a lot easier for some modders to solder the 0.47uf cap across C16.
- it's the same connections, & easier to get to, with more room around it.

in this case the cap changes from 0.001uf to:
0.001+0.047 = 0.471uf

Good luck with your mod.
Regards Dr. Bob

I just tried this mod. Dr Bobs way first then OP's way. Maybe i somehow messed things up but this isnt a good mod. Stock sound was way better in my opinion. Id call it the creamy mod because that description was dead on. If anything it smothered the gain instead of smoothing. To me it sounds more like an overdrive than a distortion.
