Maybe not known that well all around the world but John died at the age of 60 yesterday. A really sad loss for his family & friends and to the music world imho.
I saw John many times in the '70s and he was a pioneer in the use of effects with the acoustic guitar. Still to this day, I can remember a fantastic set in the 'Old Vic' (I think) in London with just John on stage with an acoustic guitar, 1 pickup, an Echoplex and I've no idea what else, creating an amazing wall of sound coming out of 4 PA stacks set up, one in each corner of the hall - a truely mesmorising experience.
Apart from his experimental compositions, John was also an amazing songwriter - check out his album 'Solid Air' for a taster.
I'll miss him. |

...This is really sad to hear...John was living in Kilkenny(medieval capital of ireland) or somewhere in that area last i heard and doing the very odd gig locally... i have that album 'Solid Air'....i bought it by chance in a sale in a record shop years ago..it quickly became one of my favourites along with 'the dark side of the moon' as a CD for chilling to with the headphones late at night....' Over the hill ' is always one i loved with the mandolin solo by Richard Thompson on it..but all the tracks were great...there is also some great stuff from the 70's on the old grey whistle test series... keep an eye out on BBC 4 as i reckon there will be some sort of tribute to him.....
I haven't been around much the last few days as a very good friend of ours died suddenly and were were giving him a traditional irish send off...

this is turning out to be a shitty start to the year.... sorry for the pessimism guys but it's the way i'm feeling.....Arthur was a great guy and taught me to swim when i was younger....

Franzoni - really sorry to hear about your friend and you are right, this is turning out to be a pretty crap year on all accounts. Let's hope it gets better.
I'm just burying myself in the things I love - my music, my band and my family. Stick with it mate - it will get better. |

Sorry for his loss & your grief Franzoni.
Its wonderous that we all exist in the first place & to bond with another being in loving friendship is so very precious & it hurts when they pass. Just remember the good times mate. |

Hey Franzoni - no problem with the topic - shows you that we care mate. I'm sure John wouldn't worry - I bet he would be pleased to know that the people on this forum are thinking about him. |
