im having a problem with my mt-2. it was working fine until a few days ago. it seems to only run on batteries now and when i try to plug it in using the adapter (psa 120t) there is no sound and the light doesnt come on. anyone know what the problem can be? |

| i dont have another boss pedal to try it out on. now it seems not to be working with batteries. can it be a short? i opened it up and looked inside everything appeared normal. |

Is it possible someone used a different adapter on the pedal recently? The symptoms you are describing often happen when over voltage/reverse voltage is applied.
Do you have a multimeter? If you do, take out the battery and disconnect the adapter and measure the resistance across the battery snap (being careful to put the +ive lead of the meter to the +ive terminal on the snap. If it is "short" (close to zero ohms) then that will tell us something.
Any chance of posting some high-res pics of circuit board 9both sides)?

Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Seems that DeFrag & Laurie are doing a good job helping you out,
Until you give us some more feedback & Info on what happened to
your pedal just before it stopped working.
Something else must have happened, just before it stopped working.
The more info you give us the more we can try to help you.
If you have a Multimeter, check the voltage on the plug on the power adapter, in case it's faulty as well.
If you have a short or shorted protection diode, then the battery will get hot & go flat very very quickly.
Use a known good-new battery when doing tests, it's surprising how many time An older battery is too flat to use run the pedal.

| i left it plugged in and it seems to have charged it but i can only use it on batteries as when i try to use it with the adapter its just dead silence. the light also still wont come on. also after this started happening i hooked it up to my computer and it worked fine, the light was on and everything but when i tried a day or two later i got the same problem. |

you can always go to radio shack or guitar center or someplace with a no questions asked return policy and buy a 9v negative tip adapter to test if it's your PS or the pedal (you could alternatively buy a new pedal at a similar store and test the PS, but that will tell you less about your pedal).
if the new power supply works, keep it. if the power supply doesn't work, then you know there's an issue with your pedal and return the power supply.

testing a 2nd battery in there still doesn't give a definitive answer about the pedal or power supply.
without a picture of the board or a 2nd power supply to test with it's impossible to give any kind of answer on the problem.
there's plenty of people here who can probably diagnose any problem but there's a few things you need to do to get to that point where they can make an accurate guess on the source. |

It could always be the power connector on the mt-2 too... If it isn't functioning properly it could keep the mt-2 from turning on and if it shorts the battery when the power adapter is connected that could create a voltage drop that keeps it from turning on and can even kill the power adapter...
But check the power coming from your adapter... The center should be the negative (black) and the outside should be the positive (red) and if you have a range setting on your meter then set it to read DC anywhere from 10 to 50 volts... that should do it... |
