Never. I consider collecting pedals a separate hobby from playing guitar/bass, I don't at all feel pedals need to earn their keep by being sonically useful to me. If a pedal happens to make a sound I like its a bonus I can use it also, if not its still part of my colourful collection of little metal boxes. I'll take pedals over paintings any day.

And you can always make a painting or wall hanging out of all those little coloured boxes.
Its funny you should say that because I have seriously considered making some sort of wall mounted rack to store/display the collection. The only concern is they collect a lot of dust out in the open, some sort of glass fronted cabinet would probably be a better idea.
