As I have a lot of Boss pedals some of them are archived and forgotten, thats normal when collecting I suppose. Now and then I pick up one of the archived ones to try it out, often a rewarding practice. Last night I tried PS-5, took a look at the manual too, and I was surprised of what this pedal I capable of. Of course I knew in general what it could do, but playing around for an hour or so was a lot of fun. In this pedal you have (other than pitch shifting) clones of HR-2, VB-2, Digitech Whammy, chorus and probably some more. This is a really versatile pedal, like a multi effect in a compact, and I like it a lot. Anyone else have experience of this sort with any forgotten Boss pedal?

I guess this is a risk when you start getting a lot of pedals. It's easy to forget a few of them when they disappear among a hundred other coloured boxes.
The RV-3 was like that for me. I've been using the RV-2 for a year and haven't used the RV-3 since I bought it a few years ago. I had completey forgot that it also had delay and when I compared it to the RV-2 I realized that it's got a lot to offer. |

Hi Goran & Guys
I know you posted this under Boss Products -- Boss Compact Pedals
But does it have to be Boss specific? Or was your question meant to be more general? Can we mention other items?

| No hidden treasures here. I seem to end up with multiples of the pedals I love, and eBay the ones I don't use. I still end up with lots of pedals, but I'm familiar with them all. :) |

the SYB-5 has something special :
with the "Hold" function, when the Decay knob is set to MAX, THE FREQUENCY OF THE FILTER IS FIXED AND WON'T DECAY, and the SYB-3 don't do that : with a SYB-3 if the Decay is set to MAX, the Frequencey will slowly decay. |

i rediscover pedals all the time...im guessing about one a week on average like the AW-3 for example. when i got it i played it for like 10 minutes and labelled it bad and put it on the shelf. i recently gave it another go and its awesome.
another thing about newer pedals. i find that most of them are almost like multi-effects in a compact case. like the PS-5, AW-3, RC-2, even the BF-3 and PH-3 have lots of extras.
this is another reason why i think the new ones are more unpopular. in my experience with stompboxes, i like it to be simple as possible and find a great setting. when i use my AW-3 or PS-5 i always find a good setting but say to myself "i bet i can get a BETTER setting" or "what else can this thing do?" while its fun to play around with i find that theres just TOO MUCH on it that it turns me off of it. make sense to anyone? |

Some people feel the delaymode on RV2 is limited [not saying you feel that way Bossarea!] but it is really special and very useful.
I can't help feeling that both the RV3 and RV5 sound very artificial compared to the RV2. RV2 is so good, really very special.
Okay back to topic: The OS2 and DS2, been using them recently as treble boosters, and they work so good for that purpose. Get the to boost treble for the BD2, and use the BD2 just to give a little dirt. Can get that very clean stratsound a la Robert Cray with this set-up.
Overal it is very true that when you do have lots of pedals, you will have your favourites, or more useful ones, and you may "forget" about some of the others.
Still would like a few more Bosspedals, but they will take time to get, and they may also not get used that much, but anyway............... |

My PQ-3B and FT-2 get alot of action in my feedback loop. Great for sweeping through walls of noise to isolate those choice areas of sonic insanity. I also have a soft spot for the XT-2. You can dial in some fairly sick tones. |

Absolutely. Time to really sit back and play can be pretty limited at times, so I don't want to spend it all in an endless goose-chase for "the right sound". I'm definitely not just "plug and play" (although I think when I get better I'll tend more more that way)but I agree with Strato, the simpler the better. One knob might be going a little too far, but I think there are a lot of great two-knob boxes out there, a la CE-2! |

I agree. I used to play in a band with a gentleman who was an excellent guitar player...had a nice Tele going to a gorgeous old silverface Pro Reverb. Sweet rig...too bad he had a GT-8 or one of those all-purpose boards in between...he spent more time tweaking knobs than actually playing!
We(players as well as Boss and other effects manufacturers) need to stick to the basics. Use effects, and they can make effects...just keep it simple so time can be spent working on the talent. |

I found this on the boss U.S. website on an article about joe walsh...looks like the eagles agree with silvertone 6120 and goran when it comes to compacts over multi effects..... joes rig is the top pic, then glenn freys and the last is the new guitar players who came in after don felder left.....joe said in the interview that the reason he liked pedals is because they are easier to tweak and ajust live, and boss were some of the toughest he found for touring..... |

Thanks for the pictures Franzoni.
Did you resize them or are they small to start with?
