I haven't ever seen one with a serial number that high. If the dating scheme I suggested in another thread is correct it would put the production date around May-July 1988. The seller is about 10 years off in his estimate

I retracted my last post -- I should have checked the details against your product listing here first. Oops.
Are the revisions you've listed in chronological order, meaning that the "E" is the last one for MIJ?
Are you going to call him out on this...?
(edit: you're stating 1988 here, but you've got 1977-1985 listed as the years of production for the OD-1 (?) )

It seem to be a very late OD-1 indeed. Perhaps the production of OD-1 continued in a small scale into the late 1980s instead of ending just before the mid 80s?

You're right. Officially they didn't make any OD-1s past 1985 but I've seen a handful of OD-1s that appears newer than that and this one is the latest I've ever seen.
I'm not confident that we've cracked the numbering system completely but everything indicates that pedals with serial number 9xxxxx are made around 1988-1989. This assumption is supported by a large number of observations of many pedals.
The OD-1E appears to be the last variant of the OD-1. The revisions are chronological and it looks like the E version had a lifespan of at least 7 years. |

It would seem that official info from Boss about manufacturing periods of different pedals is not correct. The CE-2 is an obvious case, and now the OD-1...
This is some very interesting info, as I did not know it was still in manufacture this late.
Or perhaps its a factory leftover they suddenly noticed on a shelf and stuck a six digit serial sticker on, and shipped out to be sold...
I wonder if we can find some OD-1 pedals with the current type of S/N. Now that would be a collectors item!

| Looks normal to me, S/N indicates that it is from around 1981-82. Not a very early specimen either. The long dash also seem to have stuck along a few years into the 80s before getting short. |

| Looks quite like my OD-1 except for the s/n. Mine begins with "0" and bottom plate says "...using a coin..." although there is the normal thumb screw. |

I have a similar OD-1 as well, mine has stamped serialnumber 9909, bottomplate does say "Use a Coin", screw is black...........and there are two holes in the batt. compartment. Switch is black and not of the momentorous type. The chip is not the long 14-pin one but the other shorter type.
Hey do not get sucked in by the hype as these pedals do sound good
This post has been edited as some serious spellingmistakes occured in the orginal post.
Sometimes spelling mistakes reminds us of songs being played on "out-of-tune" guitars. If you do have problems tuning your guitar, make sure your songwriting is good enough as noone will ever comment you on the nature of the ambigious harmonic content of your songs. |
