I know I should technically have put this thread in the Non-Boss forum, but well... It involves a part of Boss spirit, so...
I didn't told you about my love for the EHX Bassballs, I think. But the fact is, it's kinda my favourite distortion pedal on bass. Unfotunately, and as usual, EHX screwed something up : they choose to put the control of the 2 filters inside the pedal, on trimpots. It's so stupid I really can't understand why they did that.
Anyway, when I got my first Bassballs, I modded it. I since modded probably more than 10, during the last year.
(still in french, but the pics are worth it) => http://basstyra.free.fr/atelier/pages/bassballs/bassballs.html
The two added knobs allow to control each filter separately. I personnaly set the low filter where it gives some pulsing, punching low mids, and the treble filter depending on how agressive I want to sound.
Believe it or not, but with this mod, this pedal becomes just so wonderful I wonder why there isn't something equivalent on the market.
But anyway. What brings me here is the mod I just finished. Someone asked me to mod his Nano Bassballs. And after some reflexion, it turned out I couldn't do this in the tiny "phase90 like" enclosure. So I had to rehouse it... I have had this CE-3 box for quite a long time, it was the occasion to make it useful again. (you know, I allready told you about this box, I once wanted to put the guts of the fully rotten CE-3 I got)
Something funny, notice how the scratches in the paint make a orange color appear. Maybe it was a DS-1 box once..
