| show me where I stated that racisim is only verbal or "attitude"...seems you cats TOTALLY missed my point...lets try this one more time...I never said it was cool or hip...all I stated was (i'm not pointing any fingers)it seems that a few of us can't sort out our own shit...we need to call in the ADL & NAACP to take care our our problems...if you think running to the ADL or the NAACP will eventually wipe out racisim...you're an idiot...the problem with most of the population is we will turn the other cheek against transgressions, if someone hits us we don't hit back...we run to the ADL & NAACP and tell like good little boys /girls...and then you wonder why the problem isn't getting any better(like prison either stand up for yourself or be someone's bitch)...xenophopia is an ingrained DNA trait in humans...so man up and prepare for it...the Al Sharpton's of the world cannot save you...you must save yourself...I will state again for the record "I am not a racist", just standing up against those who would do harm to me or any of my tribe,no matter their race or religion...but +1 on being called a heartless prick...def. not the first time i've ever heard that |

Lets cool it down a bit , Shoegazer didnt mean anything to harm anybody or be a racist, we all know that. If then anybody interpret something that wasnt meant, fine, but dont let us fight about something that isnt there. I know this is politics and a bit sensitive etc, but I cant be wrong if I say that least 99% of this forums members arent racists.

&+1@brute again. race is a big part of life whether we try to ignore it or not, especially in america. and you can go one of three ways: think like the kkk/nazis/black panthers do, sweep race under the rug and pretend there's no issue, or laugh it off. the latter is the only way people are really going to learn to accept one another.
that's why we need the chris rocks and richard pryors and lisa lampanellis of the world |

I'm not really sure what's happening in this thread - I thought it was pretty obvious both "comedy asian stereotype" pedals were pretty crass and tasteless at best, and the "whacky paki" one was bordering on offensive/racist: I'm pretty sure neither were intended to be so, but that's definitely how it comes across. A couple of people pointed this out.
Then we get this:

I fuc*ing hate politically correct people... they're like the little tattle-tales on the playground...when shit doesn't go exactly their way thay throw a fit and kick and scream at how they've been wronged...so if you just found yourself described in the last few sentences then you need to grow the fu*k up!!!!
A few more people post to say it probably wasn't deliberate, but yes, it is a bit offensive; Shoegazers, who made one of the pedals even posts to point out exactly why the graphics are like they are and reassure everyone that it wasn't intended to be offensive, then this:

I have no idea what this means -
And what does this mean?

First of all, to equate the black panthers views on race AT ALL with the kkk and the nazis is to deliberately cause serious mischief: The Nazis wanted to exterminate whole sections of society as you well know: The kkk, as I'm sure you know, have a history of persecuting black and jewish people. How do the black panthers fit into this?
Secondly, none of three options for dealing with racism you present are at all appealing: I don't wish to sweep the issue of race under the carpet, which is why I raised it; But neither do I wish to laugh it off - Are we supposed to find the images on the pedals funny?

Leeroyfunk...
i hear what your saying bro' but i seriously think everyone needs to back off on this ..you left the the black panthers out out..?..they were anti-white so i suppose they were as bad as the KKK as they tarred ever white person with the one brush( the KKK who are anti irish, catholic, jew, black, asian etc) if your trying to make out they were some sort of freedom fighters i could make the same argument for the IRA from my point of view as could any other person on this forum who comes from a country where there has been trouble and strife.... but if we all start these petty arguments we will get nowhere.... ..Bossarea for a very good reason stated in the rules that there was to be no discussions on shit like this...
i'm asking you respectfully to withdraw them and let this drop.... |

Wow, the angriest I've seen this forum since I joined. Not even in the off topic, so I'd like to point out that you are posting in the wrong part of the forum. (Hopefully you took that as light hearted humour) All the race, racism, political correctness stuff covered in this thread has been coverend many many times on many other forums. I never thought I'd see it creeping into this forum. My understanding from where I live in the world is that the word 'Paki' is a derogatory word used to cause offence. That said, I am sure that this was not the case in this instance. Ironically it would appear that this heated topic has arisen from cultural differences, and misinterpretation of what words signify in different parts of the world. I'll also add, I am forunate enough to never have suffered racism in anyway, and therefore have no idea, or right to tell people how to react to it.
I put it to the mass forum that we ask the moderators to delete this thread, all cool down, and go back to talking about effects, guitars, amps, beer, and ladies. So, in summary, pretty much what FRANZONI said. Soung good everyone? |

Thanks for locking off this thread, Dr.Bob.
Racism is one of those topics that always stirs up lots of emotions. There are so many aspects of this issue that even people who agree on the fundamentals will find themselves arguing. It's better to leave this topic before things get out of hand. |
