Over the last year, I've assembled a decent collection of pedals that's great for the weekly jam session I have with friends. My pedal board, however, has become a bit unwieldy for travel. I've thought about putting together a "pedal board lite" for spur of the moment get togethers using a BCB-3.
I'm curious, if you had to limit yourself to three pedals for easy travel and spontaneous jams, what pedals would it be (not counting a tuner)?
My first thoughts (based on what I've got to work with): SD-2 (two channels offers some flexibility; don't have one in hand, but it's on the way!) PH-3 (with the tap tempo and the many modes, there's a tremendous amount of flexibility there) . . . . . . or perhaps just my CE-2 TR-2 (my favorite pedal right now!)
Cheers! |

Hi Tele_Man
FYI. There was a similar thread a few months back in 2007. There was one about "which two Boss pedals" And there was one about "Which pedal would you take if on a desert island"
Perhaps there is something in those threads that you might also be interested in?

Thanks, Dr. Bob, for pointing me towards that thread. I would have done a search first, but that function is not working right now. I'll do a little browsing and take a look. No sense reinventing the wheel here.
Cheers! |

Hi Tele_Man
That's not why I actually mentioned it, it was so you might get a broader scope, on the subject.
And there are lots of new members with new ideas & experiences to contribute to a your new thread as well.

Have the same thoughts too and are going to build a small board too. My three wold be:
SD-2 (two good cannels, one like the SD-1 and one like the OD-2) DM-2 (best delay, can even make tapedelay sounds and jitter) FDR-1 (both reverb and tremolo/vibrato with tap tempo, and can do booster or soloing too) Perfect!

If i had to stick with just boss pedals,i would go with my OD-2,TR-2 and the older of my DD-3's depending on the gig i might swap out the tremolo and use my CS-3 in front of the overdrive as a clean booster or to push the OD-2 a bit harder.....
this is actually a good idea for rehearsing i might even look at doing something like this myself as i have a few boss pedals lying around..... nice one tele-man... .... |

My three-pedal setup of choice is the following:
DM-2<<stinkfoot DS-1<<stinkfoot SD-1
The signal grows steadily hotter towards the amp |

Telecaster->BD-2->GE-7->CE-2->15W class A tube-combo with switchable spring reverb and with Vintage30 speaker
BD-2 -> to get the basic blues texture GE-7 -> to gain some 'sweet' frequencies CE-2 -> I guess you know

I've been using a setup like this for years...although recently I had to go to a bigger board because I'm using a Boss RE-20 Space Echo. But in fact I've been thinking of scaling back down and going back to using a Keeley-modded Boss DD-3. The less I can get away with carrying to a gig the better! If I do go that route this'll be my setup, and one I recommend to anyone just wanting to get back to the basics:
(This is if I can't put a tuner in my BCB-3, and since I use a Gretsch with a Bigsby on it the tuner is kind of a necessity to me...but anyway, here's my "basic" lineup) BD-2(Keeley-modded) CE-2 DD-3(Keeley-modded) or a DM-2
I use the Keeley-modded DD-3 simply because I can switch back & forth between short and long delays depending on the mood of the song. As mentioned though in my case I substitute a tuner in place of the chorus, although the tuner would be first in the chain, followed by the overdrive and the delay last.

If I had to slim down to only 3 pedals they would be:
BD-2 TR-2 CE-5
Up to 5 would include my:
DD-6 RC-2 |

| For me it would be the SD-2, DM-2 and the CE-2, that's all I need in the end... |
