Saw Dickey Betts and Great Southern this Summer, and he's got this electronic device straddling his pair of Marshalls, just wondering what exactly it is.
So I'll add some photos in an edit...

Top one looks like a fuman power conditioner...
2nd one down posibly some sort of custom pre amp or distortion/overdrive unit to stop him having to overdrive the marshalls..
3rd one looks like a korg or sabine rack tuner...
Dickey doesn't strike me as a major user of effects i reckon it was a kick ass show,he lived it the shadow of Duane Allman for a long time but is a fine player himself...
Had another look ..the heads look like JTM-45's or 50 watt JMP's as there usually a bit smaller than the 100 watts plus the small marshall script logo is usually 60's or very early 70's models...and the speakers with the silver cones ...EV's..? maybe 12L's.... |

Thanks, Dr. Bob, for the technical assist. I was a bit rusty on posting pics, thus the posts in the 'test' topic. Actually, that odd-looking one isn't part of the Dickey Betts rig -- that's my spare kidney that I put up on ePay.
SP-1, the show was really excellent, but a bit too loud for unprotected ears. They had enough sound reinforcement for a much larger venue, but this place seated 4-500 tops. It was in an old hall built out on a pier going into the Atlantic in Pacific City, NJ.
That town is like the lily-white neighbor to Atlantic City (which has gambling, boozing and all that sort of sin). Pacific City in contrast is a dry town, family oriented and rather boring.
Thanks Franzoni for your input. Be sure and let me know your 'tyre syze' before all the snows melt. |

No problemo DS.... as for the snow chains too late.... were already back on track in Dublin except for all the burst watermains and pipes....would of been cool to be the only taxi driver in Dublin with chains... but seriously i'll keep you in mind but i don't think the snow will ever be bad enough for chains but then who knows...
P.S ...i'm not suprised the gig was loud...dickey has two marshalls and a LP..the other guy has what looks like a 100 watt superlead and the guy on the right has what looks like a 100 watt Mesa Boogie head.. and thats not even including the bass rig and the drums...and from the pics i reckon you were near enough to the stage...thse guys are 'old skool' ..no amps offstage and in ear monitors.... .... |

It looks like the bassplayer is using a 300 watt Ampeg SVT with matching 8x10 cabinet, those things are insanely loud when turned up.
Franzoni, where do you see a Mesa/boogie head ? I see Marshalls on either side of the dude with the goldtop. |

That's not a Boogie, that's the bassplayer's SVT.

your right Dirk... ...i missed the half stack behind the guy on the right without the cowboy hat.... still must of been mad ...four marshalls and a 300 watt ampeg plus the drums..they don't look like the sort of guys who use master volumes or attenuators either... ....i saw Mark Knopfler a couple of years back and he was using two 60 watt Komets(ken fischer designed latter day trainwreck heads) and two old marshall 4 x 12's..in the O2 arena in Dublin and he was very loud and i was at the back of the hall over the sound booth....and it wasn't all the PA ..these things were cranked and kicking.... |

I don't want to be a Bandwidth - Hog, but I can post more photos that show a better range of stage gear. The ones I picked emphasized that rack on Dickey's Marshall pair.
I've been going with 480 x 640 for these pics... that seems to work OK, so if I need to make them smaller, Moderator please let me know.
If anyone wants to see some more shots from that show, or would prefer not to see any more at all, let me know either way. |

All I know is, Dickey Betts is now endorsed by Snuggie, the blanket with sleeves...

I don't know how much of a worldwide phenomena Snuggies are, so this is for reference:

Thank You Jack !!
I appreciate your dry sense of humour, and I think you are making fun of Dickey Betts' sleeveless T attire..
Even though I have a pretty wide sense of humor, I don't always get it all.... but who cares?
You rock on, Man. |
