| Just bought an MZ-2 on Ebay. I'm just trying it out now, but it seems like the digital side might be duff. The drive works fine, but in mono there is no discernible change in sound with any of the modes. In stereo, in any other mode than SGL there is practically no sound from output B, other than what I assume is bleed from output A. Am I missing something obvious, or is this a half-working MZ-2? |

Hi meatbingo
The MZ-2's is a current pig, & eats batteries for breakfast. - a good alkaline might last approx 15 mins (if you're lucky).
So Are you running this off a battery or a Power supply?
I seriously suggest you use a power supply. If the supply goes low, like with a fast eaten battery the MZ-2 will give extremely weird-strange results. This sounds like what you might be experiencing. Unless you actually have a faulty MZ-2, or one with a partial short on the supply line.
There is a secret voltage setting, on this beast where it will go all ape sh!t on you. Oh man (Dr. B) is giving away all our secrets again.
Good luck

| Hi Dr. Bob. I am running it from a generic power supply which I have used to successfully run all of my other Boss pedals, so it should be OK. I tried the handful of batteries I have lying around and the thing doesn't even power on with them, but that could be because they are actually dead! |

Well, I dug out a proper Boss PSA-240 and guess what? The MZ-2 now works properly! It's surprising to me because as I said I have run every one of my other Boss pedals with a generic PSU without trouble. The MZ-2 is obviously a little more fussy. Now to play with it! |

Hi meatbingo
That's good news.
Can I ask what is written on the label of the Generic Power supply, that you have been using? How many mA current & DC Voltage, what brand?
And is it a regulated one?
BTW, how did you go with the MZ-2 now that you have it working?
Just a quick heads up, if you can set it up in stereo, using a second amp, the Delay & Chorus settings are even better.

The generic supply I have is a Uniross one with a selectable voltage. It's 300mA and unregulated, which I suspect may have been what my problem was. I'm probably a bit too cavalier with power supplies to be honest! I need to invest in something better than can run more pedals at once. Something I have to look into.
I'm really pleased with the MZ-2. Distortion is a relatively new area for me really. Which I suppose is an unusual thing for a guitarist to say! I had it hooked up in stereo last night and it sounds great to me. The doubling modes are particularly nice. The chorus modes sounded more effective in mono for some reason. |
