since this is the Off Topic section ill post my 2 cents.
i smoked weed for about 1 year in high school and i drank for a few years in high school and college but havent in a few years now. i think most people kind of go through that pothead phase but most grow out of it. most of my friends have/still do smoke dope too and some of them drink (some excessively) and my conclusion is this... i would rather drive/work/live/hang out with a pothead over a drunk any day of the week. you RARELY hear about someone smoking pot, getting into a car and killing a family or an angry pothead coming home stoned and beating his wife and kids.
even looking at what it does to your system.. weed is obviously not good for you but people underestimate how bad alcohol is for you. if you drink too much alcohol you can die from "alcohol poisoning" which is a friendly word for OD. (and not Overdrive ) the truth is that going out and getting wasted is horrible for your system.
i guess to me it doesnt really make sense that a drug like alcohol is not only legal but openly sold in stores across the world, and then drugs like marijuana is illegal. even if it was legal i still wouldnt smoke it but to me weed should be legal and alcohol should be banned.
i dont know about you guys but i have a few friends who love to drink, but they go on about how things like mushrooms, coke, and even heroin are so terrible and bad for you. to me alcohol is up there too
thoughts? sorry for the hijack |

Hear, hear! Alcohol is bad stuff.. but since I brew my own beer, I rather enjoy it. My old body can't take the abuse it used to though. So I relish in a pint of either homemade or the best micros available such as Newcastle, Paulaner Oktoberfest, Fischer, or maybe even Sam Adams. |

oh dont get me wrong. a beer or two isnt very harmful. i just meant that when people do it in excess it can become a problem. i tried homebrew once at a friends house. we opened it WAY too early and it just foamed for a while. when it finally quit foaming there was about 1/4 glass of beer left. good stuff |

good points guys...as my father used to say 'everything in moderation' apart from class A drugs that is..as they are really bad shit....i grew up in dublin's inner city where we had a very bad herion problem in the early 80's..a number of people i grew up with became junkies or are dead now.....at the moment we have a very serious cocaine problem in ireland,in the last week alone 4 people are dead including one very high profile model/socalite and it's only because of her and the outcry it's caused in certain circles that the government had started to get tough on the dealers....i see young people all the time on gigs out of their head on various things and the mix of alcohol and cocaine if by far the worst...the aggression and trouble i've seen from this mix is f**king bad,bad,bad.....we irish as most people know like a drink or two but as a nation we have taken to cocaine with a vengeance mostly because the country is awash with money but i personally think from talking to people who use it regularly,is that it keeps you going on a beer session where normally they would have left for home much earlier,i know people that have stayed out for whole weekends with little or no sleep using this crap..... and the people taking this shit were the people who looked down their noses at the herion addicts back in the day...even smoking a joint was a major crime isn some of these peoples eyes....and they become class A drug users in their 30's when they are married with young children.....i'm not a violent person but sometimes i would love to give some of these people a few slaps to get them to wake up and look at the damage there doing not only to themselves but to their families...financially and just by being selfish with their time by going missing for whole weekends....
BTW...i like a few beers and a good glass of red and even if i didn't have a beer on a gig i would usually have either/or afterwards to unwind..... |

Sad to hear of that models death.
It is no secret that governmnets worldwide esp in Canada have a firm hold on the alcohol industry and taxation. This is a good thing as so many die needles deaths due to drunk driving.
I like how in the UK they have classified drugs so people have a better understanding. DRUGS seems to be the catch all phrase that puts fear into the hearts of many.... |
