Cicatriz: Good catch on the Silverburst.. I think it's one of the best things Gibson's put out in a while!! Only 400 made!!

Dr. Bob:
I mentioned the Sitar and Bandurra.. but I decided to take them out of their cases for some air.
The Sitar (traded a weird Korean Fender 12-string acoustic for it)
I enjoy plunking around on it, but I'm hopeless at tuning it. I DO have a spare set of strings.. maybe this decade I'll get around to it.
The Bandurra - bought for something like $25.
In all, that's a LOT of strings to maintain (and a lot of modes, chords, styles to learn).. most of all is my old piano - but I leave that stuff to the professionals!

I love the sitar and the Bandurra. Is the bandurra a Turkish instrument? |

Cicatriz: Thanks and np.. the Standard was "guitar of the week" at some point- lots of those were bizarre and undesireable.. the Silverburst LP & SG being the best of the lot.. Wish I'd snagged one!! I even got to play 2 of the 40 Silverburst Customs they made...
The Bandurra is Ukranian, to my knowledge. They do whole orchestras of the things. If you look in my previous pictures, there's a broken Oud on top of my Boss collection - that's more Middle Eastern - the Turkish Saz is different, but similar in some ways. I need one of those, and a Tar to "complete" my "collection". Maybe a 2-string Chinese Violin too.  Where does it stop?! |

Ah I see, well that's awesome man! I own a japanese instrument called a Shamisen, it's a 3 string, fretless banjo kind of thing, it's pretty awesome, I love playing it.
Not the best picture, but you get the idea

I think a neck-position bar-magnet pickup would be phenomenal on that.. one of the eternal debates - piezo vs. mag.
I wonder if you could retrofit an old broken magnetic synth pickup.. i could even do the same for the mando. |

The strings are nylon though, or traditionally, catgut.
It's my understanding that pickups only "pick up" vibration from steel strings... right?
Or have I just never really thought about it? |

Haha yeah, I figured so.
Should I just build a piezo out of a little electronic toy? A couple of my friends said that buying a piezo was not worth it. |

My Fernandes Dave Kushner Signature Ravelle with Sustainer pickup and Bare Knuckle 'Rebel Yell' pickup installed. Also has Earvana nut.

| The world needs more green guitars. Sustainers a tons of fun. I've never seen the Earvana before.. from their website, it looks a lot like the compensated nut on most Music Man guitars/basses. |
