I can't believe I couldn't find a thread on this.
Edit: OK. Dr. Bob talked me out of the mods, but I still want the question answered.
I presently have an MIT CE-2, but I'm wondering if I can do better. I was thinking about doing a Monte Allums mod on one, in which case I'd be looking for a MIT to mod. Or, I could buy an MIJ, and mod the MIT I already have. Or I could be happy with what I have and stop spending money.
I have a lead on an MIT at a decent price, but first I want to know.. are there any significant differences among the 3 major varieties of CE-2 (black, green, MIT)? Keep in mind I'm looking for a player, not a collector's piece. |

Dr Bob is the man to ask..he has a few CE-2's ..i remember asking the same question in the ebay pages on this forum and i was told that there was a difference in the MIJ and MIT versions......about specific labels(as in two different MIT or MIJ versions ) i'm not sure..... |

Well, my personal experience with a MIJ ('83) and MIT (s/n missing) was that there was no audible difference.
The MIJ was borrowed, the MIT is mine. I had both for about a week in the same chain, and tried a couple of different instruments - I'd play a note, swap pedals, play it again just the same - for a range of frequencies, various kinds of sound, various lenghts of playing time to see if the differences would be more evident over longer periods...
... maybe it's me, maybe I was lucky with the pedals - but I couldn't tell them apart tonally.
One had a slightly faster sweep rate at max, and a few more scratches, that's all.
Oh, and it would have sold for about 25 more. |

I have both. In the MIT the trimpots had been "adjusted" by a previous owner. Now the pots have been properly set it sounds very close to my long-dash MIJ. Its hard to pick if either sounds "better". Maybe I just can't hear the subtle nuances... |

| I'm thinking the pedal-to-pedal differences might be equal to or greater than the differences between eras. |

Hehe cannot hear a dratted difference when the music is playing.... If there is any...then it is more down to pedal to pedal differences.

I read the other post on the ebay thread... i supose if i was to sum it up from my perspective...since the Jap CE-2 came onto my board the three 'keepers' of all my pedals would be the CE-2,TR-2 and the older of my two DD-3's....i'm going to mod my newer DD-3 so the second dry output is beside the wet one to split to the amps for convenience.. i took the CH-1 back off the board 'cause i just didn't need it with the CE-2..the only modulation pedals i use now is the CE-2 and the TR-2....by messing around with both on a fast speed i can get that rotary speaker sorta sound..not quite as good or as accurate as my Dynacord CLS 22 set for fast but not bad either but you need the TR-2 as well to do this..... |
