Hi
1st time I've posted!
Anyway, all this talk of DM-2 prices is making me a tad squeamish about taking mine out to gigs. It's cable-tied to a board, but still ... not hard to nick, if anyone at a gig knew what it was! So, I'm thinking: maybe I should sell it and use something cheaper. Now, the Build Your Own Clone pedal (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/delay.html) looks and "sounds" (description-wise!) like it might be a good bet - does anyone know if it is?? No point selling the DM-2 I've had FOREVER, and like a lot, for an inferior pedal. Or are there any other suggestions?
Thanks Iain |

The BYOC Delay Pedal is based on the Ibanez AD-80 Digital Delay I believe. The Boss DM-2 is an Analog BBD type Delay.

There are two clips of the BYOC Digital Delay on that page above.
Whether it will get "warm" enough for your tastes I do not know. But just thought I'd reiterate that it's digital. |

| Yeah, I believe the BYOC is an analog sounding digital delay, with true-bypass. Another thing to keep in mind is that the BYOC delay in the delay kit is only about 300ms, but if you swap out some different components, you can increase the delay times. |

Get something cheaper for stage use, sure, but if I were you I'd seriously hang onto that DM-2.
You could probably also get a DD-2 for what the kit costs, and mod it for "analog" rolloff.

Ok I said this in another thread.
Ibanez DL-10. Best kept secret out there. Have had many a delay, but I've kept one of these and a Memoryman (also excellent) you choose, but believe me this one's a winner
The most warm/analogue sounding digital delay I've heard.
BYOC delay is fine but a hell of a tricky build to get just right unless you're pretty experienced with pedal building
Seriously, get yourself one of those while there still under $100...they wont stay that cheap I can almost promise you.

I have had 5 DD-2s and they all sounded slightly different; so even pickup a DD-2 or 2 and try them out - you may not need to mod it; if you buy a newer DD-3 you will need to mod it, because they are a bit more sterile. |

| The Ibanez EM5 Echo Machine is a good "analog sounding" digital delay too. Too bad they're in plastic boxes though. |
