Hi Guys While I was out suffering GAS pains today, I played a J&D Luthiers JD-TL Telacaster, in natural blonde, with maple neck.
This guitar has a RRP of $349Au & plays exceptionally well. I have been looking for a Tele style guitar for awhile now, & this one is very nice. I has a fantastic tone - even with out plugging it into an amp, The finish is high quality, One fret needed a sand on the edge, of the neck. It was set up well , intonation was spot on, fitted with 10-46 strings, the height-action was fast with out fret buzz.
I think I'm in love --- Again.
And all this for $349 dealer said he would discount it, when I was serious, serious, I was playing it for over an hour, while other came over to have a spank on it as well. Here are the specs fromn the PDF. & a pic
J&D Luthiers JD-TL electric guitar. Traditional TC-style. Solid (Telecaster) Alder body, hard Maple Neck, 22 fret Maple or Rosewood fingerboard with position dots. Deluxe binding. Volume and tone controls, 3-position switch. Chrome hardware. $349.00
See Bossarea, I do listen, I read the clear as mud, message that you left, in a previous topic. The pic uploaded, but wouldn't display. ??

Hi Tommwest Thanks for your reply & comment. For me it's all about TONE & the feel, both acoustically & into a good valve amp.
The headstock is about as close as they can probably go with out incurring a "Cease and Desist notice", or law suit.
It is way better than the headstock of a Greg Bennett ala Samick Tele. The Greg Bennett, was finished a tiny bit better, but I didn't get the chance to amp that one up. I was having way too much fun with the J&D. I have Friday off for Business reasons, & will be travelling about 160Km (100 miles). There is a dealer near where I will be staying, I think I will go spend some Quality time with his collection of J&D Tele's.
Have you played the J&D? if so which one & what is your opinion.
Hey Basstyra I can see a 20dB booster opamp, fitted to this tele.

Hi Bossarea I think, you misread what I wrote, I didn't get this guitar - yet - I wanted to look at the ones, that are in another store 100 miles away. But I suppose in my mind I did get this guitar.
That store owner 100 miles away, has a real passion for all guitars & players. I wanted to see what he had in stock, before I made a final decision, & I wanted to give him a chance at my GAS money. He also runs a nice repair & setup workshop.
The file uploaded, but I still didn't get the code-icon on my posting. I had to resort to, typing in the HTML for the link to the file. No insults intended, but it's this would be, a bit too complicated for the casual user. Still it worked, & I suppose that's all that matters.
I case you are keeping track, I am using the latest update of Firefox/2.0.0.3 It seems to work Ok from my other browser.

Whoops, yes I see now that I should have spent more time actually reading your post. I tend to look at the pictures and skim the text |

| I've never played a J&D, although I've never seen them in any of my local guitar shops, do they compare the the Mexican Tele's? If so they'll be damn good instruments. |

Hi tomwest
I'm sorry that I can't give you a detailed opinion, but I have played a well setup MIM Tele that belongs to my best man. I can tell you that the J&D seemed to play a hell of a lot better and the finish was nicer.
The pickups on the MIM Tele were thin & very weak in output volume. to the point that he had the bridge PUp replaced with a Vintager69 stacked humbucker, and it was still low in output? I will be looking at these again in the next few days, at the store that's about 100 miles from my home. I will be less pressured while there.
I might even come home with one.

Yeah, I don't know what it is about Teles, but it has never happened before where I got one guitar and then wanted to get the same one and various variations of the same one...If I didn't wreck my car this weekend trying to miss a deer, which I missed but then hit all sorts of other crap, I'd be figuring out how to get a 3rd and 4th Tele. But it all works out, since you can only have so many guitars before some get neglected for too long, and thats just not right either.... |

i have an old squier silver series tele, red with a maple neck, the neck has some nice woodgrain in it,really nice for a squier..these ones were from around 1990 and were made in japan.. a lot of people upgrade the pickups,i did i have a pair of seymour duncans in it...a vintage stack at the neck and a hot rails with a mini toggle switch to split the humbucker at the bridge...this is my back up guitar on most gigs and i've been using it a lot rehearsing lately...the duncan pickups are starting to grow on me ,at first i thought they made the guitar too mellow(i'm used to the strats wiry sound) but now i like the fat sound of them, the hot rails is really good with the od2.... as well i'm listening to some country players lately like brad paisley, vince gill and danny gatton etc so this has something to do with it...and of course with one of my favourtie bands coming to dublin later this year..the police....with andy summers and his tele custom........ ...... |
