Hi.
It's my first post on the forum, but I have been lurking around a bit.
I have a Boss BE-5M that I�m very happy with. It�s essentially something like a cs-3 + os-2 + dd-3 + ce-2 multi effects unit. The os-2 IMO is the weak link in this chain. I have plenty of other pedals, but I often go for the BE-5M because it�s just so convenient! Long story short � I hated the distortion side of the �os-2�. I missed having a clean boost, so why not make the distortion side into a clean boost. I took out the 2 diodes in the distortion. I had seen somebody somewhere make a ds-1 into a clean boost this way. Plugged it back in and there it was � my �clean� boost. The color knob (blend between OD and DS) is now a blend between OD and clean boost. BUT here�s what I didn�t expect� The in-betweens now give me some excellent low drive settings! I really like it a lot. It�s probably no surprise for some of you guys, but I had planed to use either the OD or the boost, not a combination.
Somebody must have done this before, but I haven�t found any mod like this on the internet. Just thought I would post this and give a little back to the forum.
To do this on a BE-5M � remove diodes d11 and d12
To do this on the OS-2 � remove diodes d3 and d4
I don�t own a OS-2 but I used this schematic (http://www.schematicx.com/schematic/bos ... schematic/) to determine the diodes that needed removal on the OS-2. The BE-5M? Well I kinda just starred at the pcb for a really long time

Thanks for your excellent first post.
We don't hear a lot about the BE-5M here on the forum, well not in the years I have been here.
Did you manage to take any internal pictures of your BE-5M,
while you were doing the mod?

I didn't take any pictures but I could easily open it up again and do it. I will do so later this day. Anything in particular you would like to see other than the pcb?

By the way... Have any of you guys ever replaced a switch on a board like the BE-5M (or something like it)? Mine are bad to say the least! Is it posible to clean a switch or do i simply have to solder in new ones? It's not a problem with the soldering, the problem is getting the parts....
