Hey all In your opinions, what is the best sounding Boss Metal Distortion out of the HM-2 Heavy Metal, HM-3 HYPER Metal, MT-2 Metal Zone, MZ-2 Metalizer, best all around bass, mid, treble, and thickness and clarity? Thanks |

| i know you haven't listed it but i found the MD-2 Megadistortion to be very chunky and heavy. i haven't tried the rest cept for the MT-2 so i won't say it's the one to get! |

| I thought about the MD-2 but I heard it is too muddy for leads |

| I prefer the HM-3 but if you want clarity that's not the pedal. It's muddy and thick, lots of gain and has the same brilliant tone controls that the HM-2 has. |

| I would say the MT-2, though you have to take some setting the eq just right....I would also say the MT-2 with the Keeley Mod blows a stock MT-2 out of the water, but the stock MT-2 is good in the right hands. |

| Bossarea, care to post your serial # on your HM-3? I have to say I really wasn't impressed with mine at all, and was wondering if earlier ones for whatever reason might be better. |

Unfortunately I don't have a serial number. The previous owner has removed the bottom label

i would say without a doubt, the MT-2 is the best METAL distortion. my MD-2 is way to smooth and muddy sounding for metal. i find it has absolutely no edge or character when it comes to metal, and sounds better when set subtly. I use the MD-2 for lead only. my HM-2 is just a typical (but nice sounding) distortion.i wouldnt use it for cutting edge stuff, but would kick it on for stuff that might be overkill to the MT-2. (Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Van Halen)
just a tip for the MT-2. even tho it has EQ built in, it can still sound thin at times. sounds great with a GE-7 after it, or better yet and EH-2 for some reason. |

Hands down MT-2.
That EQ is so tweakable, it's great...killer with a decent tube amp.I used one as my main distortion for three years, recorded with it. I used it perhaps not typically though, a bit of drive...just enough to spank the front end of the JCM 800 and then zone in on the tone with the EQ. It's a seriously great pedal when used properly and like a like of pro equipment, will sound like crap in the wrong hands or with the wrong signal chain. The MZ is crappy non organic sounding and tonally limited. I have no idea why they are sought after. Perhaps industrial music? Anyway, I won't write off any pedal totally, there's always something you can do with them...........(thinking to self...paperweight...throw at noisy dog etc)
