I was thinking of acquiring one of these should the opportunity arise at a good price, for that Jerry Garcia type thang but also possibly for slightly more synthy swept swells. Anyone here had the ooportunity to use more than one and if so which would you recommend?

Tough one, I prefer the FT-2 over my AW-2 and TW-1 but it all depends on your style I guess.

Was going for the same thing (I'm sure there are my posts in the archive with my Jerry sounds questions) and did a major search & buying spree....
I have the AW-2, TW-1 & FT-2. All different, but out of the three I liked the FT-2 best follwed by the TW-1 then AW-2 - which IMO sux (my bassist friend loves it tho).
That said, I wound up buying and still use a Maxon AF-9 (sorry Boss).
True bypass (if that is important to you) and it just gets me the closest to that sound without some of the huge real-estate commitments that Q-trons or QT clones (which the AF-9 is apprently supposed to be) are. I already have a rotosphere that is a huge one trick pony on the board.
FWIW both the ft-2 (small number made/not too popular - someone else can speak to this) and the Maxon were the priciest of the bunch. I got lucky and found a used in the box AF-9 and saved some $$.

I still miss AW-3 but have all of the others, including three variations of TW-1.
As for good sound/tone I like TW-1 the best, and I like my late black screw best of them. But sure, they are subtle. Just as DM-2 and CE-2 TW-1 thickens the sound in a very nice way.
As for full touch wah effect I like FT-2 the most.
