I am trying to mod my SD1 to the 5 Star GE Keeley Mod using the following link:

http://www.geocities.com/overdrivespider/SD1/stepfour.htm

So far so good. At the last step however where the 47pF is connected across D6 I have a doubt.

Should this capacitor not be connected across D4 ?

There is also another mistake in the link. In the actual board, C2 is where C3 is highlighted in the photo and C3 is one capacitor lower.

Thanks in advance.

the cap can be either i believe.

D4 is the easiest imo since you don't have to apply additional heat to D6.

as for C2 and C3, go off the component #'s. keeley used to have that posted on his site like he has the DS-1 SEM/Ultra mod.

let me know what you think of it when you get it done. i wasn't hugely impressed by it (not nearly as impressed as by his DS-1 and BD-2 mods).

This is my clumsy effort so far. I put the 47pF capacitor over D4 similar to the tube screamer. I didn't like the diode combination suggested by Mr. Keeley (Germanium transistor and Red Led). I have settled for short and 1N4138 for now. The short was very similar to the Germanium transistor sound anyway, but a bit sweeter/creamier. I found the Red Led very loud quite "bone breaking".

are you working off the older 5star Ge mod? or the current stacked mod?

i know there's a few differences.

It was the GE 5-star mode with an added switch to toggle between a GE transistor and Red LED. Eventually, I replaced the GE transistor with a short and the Red LED with the 1N4148. I experimented a bit with stacked op-amps mainly TI RC455Ps and OPA2134PAs both equally nice. After stacking 2, I could not hear any difference.

What are the differences between the GE 5-star and the stacked mode ?
Are they public domain ? A link would be as always useful.

the older 5star is on overdrive spider. it was published, but was taken down when the mod was changed. so the one on overdrive spider was public domain, and he hasn't been sued/threatened, so i'd assume it's public domain.

the newer mod is stacked and is unpublished.

honestly, i liked the fulldrive 2 conversion more, but it's a lot dirtier.

i wasn't a fan of the germanium stuff in the clipping diodes. felt like it sapped too much gain from the pedal unless they were run in series with another diode.
