Been doing research on this and hear that it can do a decent super fuzz grind. Anyone have one and want to talk about it? Boss stopped making them 12 years ago but apparently the FZ-3 & 5 are inferior. I'm also very curious about the clean boost. Thanks |

| I love mine... the two fuzz modes are very different, but between them and the 2-band EQ you can cover a lot of ground. The gain boost is HUGE and the 2-band EQ also operates in this mode, making it super versatile if you want to use amp distortion. It's like a multi-effects fuzz... but analogue. Because it's buffered it's not as unpredictable or interactive with your guitar controls though. |

| G'day! My FZ-2 is "ok", but just "ok". I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that will really satisfy is a fuzz-face clone. |

Ive got one. its pretty harsh and hard sounding.
it compresses the sound a whole lot and sounds very tight.
mode II is a bit video game sounding.
I like it but and its semi-rare but still doesnt sell for that much so Ill keep mine. |

I agree fully, non of the Boss fuzzes come close to a good Fuzz Face clone, but the nicest Boss is FZ-2. |

| I like my FZ-2, but I don't own the other FZ pedals to compare. Mode II is very Deftones sounding. In fact both the Deftones and the band Orgy are known to use the FZ-2. And the gain boost is WAY LOUD!!! |

| Had the FZ2 and found it harsh, the FZ3 is ok, but it falls short of sounding fuzzy |

Thanks for all the replies. I might have a deal for one in the works. So it seems the FZ-2 is indeed the one to get of the 3, even though it might sound harsh, can you adjust that with the gain knob at all? I'm looking to use this as my main fuzz, I play blues, crazy stuff, but I don't play metal. I do want that low end grind of the super fuzz though. Hope this quenches that. Thanks again |

I tried it with a GE-7 after it and that help a lot. |

Hi solewheelin
As with any pedal the tone that you hear for fuzz in your head, is very subjective.
The best thing would be to go & try it out, if that's possible. Over the years the term fuzz has come to mean many different things. From the dreamy Fuzz tones that I hear in my head, to the splatter & farting of mis-biased new generation clones.
But sadly those splatty-farty mis-biased clones do seem to sell, to a whole new generation of players.
I do like my FZ-2, my first one was a part exchange for some repairs.
Warning though, "in booster mode". Keep a fresh pair of underwear handy, it's frighteningly LOUD.
As Laurie suggested, a GE-7 might help you tweak the tone.
And try it into both a SS & a tube amp, it will sound a bit different.
Regards Dr. Bob

Aha, I have been avoiding this topic for two reasons. One is that I didn't like the FZ-2, as it just wasn't the sound I had in my head. And because I have one up for sale / trade. But reading Dr.Bobs post, I only tried my FZ-2 into my tube amp. Didn't try it into my solid state. Hmmm.. I may have to investigate this before I make a deal on this pedal. He is right about the booster mode. It could skin a cat.... |
