Wow - that's a tough one DeFrag but here goes (not including any pedals):
- Gibson - Les Paul Standard (1978 Gold Top) (I was 19 years old � blew a whole term�s allowance at college for my dream guitar � factory fresh too, at the time)
- Fender - Stratocaster 1960 Relic (the guitar I missed out on for �200 when I was 19 years old)
- Yamaha � SG2000 (similar to the guitar my best mate bought when we were 19 years old - an SG1000 � that I lusted after that axe for years)
- Korg MS20 (wanted a synth that looked like something off the bridge of a Starship)
- Yamaha SPX90II (first glimpse of digital reverb algorithms)
- Marshall JVM 410C 100w Combo (most versatile gigging amp)
- Roland JP8000 (analogue bliss without the MS20 oscillator wandering)
- Boss GT-5 (fattest emulations I�ve tried and easiest to use)
- Steinberg Cubase SX (recording made easy)
- Genelec 1029A monitors (first monitors that really taught me a lesson about what my recordings really sounded like)
Pleased to say, I've been extremely lucky enough to be able to hang onto all of it too. |

Snap..........also a fan of the yammy SG 2000s mine is from the early 80's as far as i know.. the only real difference i can see is i took the scratchplate off mine.........

That's a mighty fine SG2000 you've got there Franzoni - these yammies give Les Pauls a good run for their money imho. I would add an SG1000 or SG3000 to my list if I had more choices 
Bought mine a couple of years back. It had been stuck away in a retailer's warehouse in London for years - minty condition when I got hold of it but with a truely horrible setup - probably why they never sold it or simply forgot about it. We soon sorted that out easy enough! Found out about it through some mates in the trade - if you don't ask, you don't get. |

They all certainly get played and I guess it's the '78 Les Paul that's used least these days- simply because of its value & risk of damage / theft. Whilst I gigged with it a lot in the late '70s and early '80s, it was retired from live work when I relocated and the bands I worked with folded. Since then it's been used for studio work only and it's an absolute pleasure to play it. I have really looked after it but, believe me, it's well played in - it's amazing what a good polish and lots of tlc can do.
I started semi-pro gigging again 4 or 5 years ago and the yammy and the strat are played regularly but have yet to see the bright lights of a stage - they will soon! . The yammy probably looks so good as it is NOS and the strat is a purposely beat up relic which just happens to have come out well again in the photo.
I've never played an Epiphone Les Paul but I hear they are excellent. The only Epi I have played was a Flying V that I borrowed and it was a real shred machine - high output 'buckers and ultra-low action - good sounding, easy to play guitar. My mate has a Sheraton (semi acoustic) and that is a well made guitar too. Good brand - certainly worth trying at your local music shop. |

My list is in chronological order, though dates are approximate. You'll notice it picks up in the last dozen years as I finally start having extra $$$ to buy stuff. All are still in use except where noted.
1. Boss DM-3 (1986) - like I need to tell you guys...
2. 1979 Ovation 1111 (1988) - don't dig it out as much as I should
3. 1994 Japan Fender Telecaster 1996 - first serious electic, original pups replaced with Texas Specials
4. Sansamp GT-2 (1997) - nasty
5. 1966 Fender Mustang (1998) - such a wonderful neck, huge headstock
6. 1969 Fender Mustang Bass (1998) - see above
7. Fostex 8-track (1999) - not bought, received for guitar services on an album that ended up selling about 15 copies. First experience with home recording. Sold.
8. First home computer (2000) - yeah, it took awhile, shot me. I'll count the ability to do even better home recording as an important step forward. Since replaced, & need a new one soon.
9. Alesis RA-100 Monitor amp & speakers (2001) - necessary, see above
10. Sanamp PSA-1 (2006) - ranted enough about this in other threads
Honourable mention: 1995 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite (2002) - still hate the name (sounds like a crap beer) but great axe. |

Some damn fine purchases there, especially jealous of the_doc's strat and goldtop!
My top 10 however:
1) Boss DM-2 with box, pretty much mint condition. �35. Need I say more?
2) Fender 60th anniversary mex strat. I tried a few and this one was a keeper. �400 so a bit more than normal mexicans and not much cheaper than a highway one strat, but it was everything i wanted. In fact, a lot of the things that are now standard on the american models such as the vintage bent steel saddles, the heavier sustain block and the blizzard pearl finish (a first on this guitar).
3) Washburn d46sce electro-acoustic. My first "good" acoustic guitar, beautiful neck and quilted ash back and sides.
4) TC electronics vintage dual distortion. What a distortion should sound like.
5) Vox ad50vt. An excellent all purpose amp with loads of amp models and good volume for playing with a band.
6) Fender Koil Kords, planet waves leads, all the good leads that have made all my guitars sound better!
7) Fender Pro Junior Amp. Something about those valves and I got it at a good price...
8) Boss BR-600. After my debacle with my line6 toneport (kept uninstalling itself!) it was great to have something i can record with properly.
9) Admira Capricho classical acoustic. Very sweet tone, lovely to play. So much better than the cheap nylon string I learned on!
10) Boss CE-2. Everybody needs one! As Dr Bob says, slow and deep. |
