| You should go with the GE-7. The DN-2 hasn't gotten too many great reviews around here. Personally I really, really want the DN-2 but it keeps eluding me on ebay. |

guitar center's 4th of july sale had DN's at like $59...
which is below cost.
they're kinda like an overdrive that behaves like an auto wah/envelope filter. |

I can't decide whether I hate the DN-2 or whether I detest it. Loathe may also be a feeling that the DN-2 inspires in me. Of my selection of 12 Boss overdrives and distortions DN-2 is the one I like least. XT-2 is my current favorite. |

I currently have
Vwah, Md-2, Ns-2, Cs-3, Bf-3 & tr-2.
I plan to get a dd-3 and a tu-2, and I have one more space left.
Whether to get a drive or and equaliser is my problem
Any suggestions?

DN-2 is a strange pedal... At first I liked it a lot, it was really funny to use when playing alone at home. But I got tired of it fast, it was inorganic/processed in a way that after a while are tiring on your ears. In a band situation it is easy "hidden", not jumping out like an SD-2 or BD-2. I guess it will collectible after some years....

out of stuff that exists new right now... an OD-3 would probably fill your need nicely. more mild than the MD-2. |

Would an Od-3 be more useful that a ge-7?
Cheers for all your help btw |

depends what you need.
there's basically 4 types of distortion: 1. mild overdrive 2. heavy overdrive 3. moderate distortion (think hard rock) 4. heavey distortion (think metal)
the MD-2 is fairly versatile and should cover 3 and 4 but somewhat underperforms when you dial the gain way back. 2 and 3 somewhat overlap and it's more of a tonal color than a gain/fuzz level.
a GE-7 will serve as a lead boost or tone sculptor but won't really alter the timbre. i generally would go 2 distortion pedals, 1 for rhythm/crunch and 1 for high gain/leads and find this to be more versatile.
if i had to choose 1 or the other, i would rather have a less gainy distortion pedal. if you are nailing your ideal tone with an MD-2 and just want something to give that extra volume kick for lead work, then a GE-7 might fit the bill. |

I use the md-2 as a good distortion for muse stuff. Its a good pedal, it canget a variety of sounds, but sometimes I want a more indie rock gain, as my amp's one isnt fantastic.
I use an epiphone Sg, OD-3 good with 'buckers? I heard it's better for single coils. :/
Cheers again |

all true boost based overdrives generally drive single coils more easily as the boost is more significant and there isn't as much low end potential for mud.
OD-3's don't have a whole lotta dirt behind em, but they'll work w/ buckers as well as any tube screamer, SD-1, OD-1, etc. granted... OD-3's are a bit lacking on the high end response. however, there's a mod where you clip 2 diodes that opens em up a bit in that regards.

I'm sure we're all familliar with Jason Spensor on this forum, but heres the od-3 demo.
I really like teh tone he gets espcally at 2:oo - 2:14
Is that 'clean boost' work on 'buckers? Or is it just 'coz he's playing a strat through it? |

clean boost will work with buckers. of course the boost is based upon the sound of the pickups. so clean humbucker playing will sound like boosted clean humbucker playing.

Hi OllieSG
Check out this official Boss Video about 2/3rds of the way in, he plays the OD-3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDC4lbSN2T0&feature=related Sold Me
I don't know who the guitarist is?
It's worth looking all the other Vids in the series as well, 7 8 in all I think
