Hey fellas, I copied this over from my post at Harmony Central and just wanted to share it with you cuz it's my first LP and I'm lovin' it!
Graduated last week and got my Technical Diploma in IT, and as a gift from my family I got some sweet stuff - pretty much the last presents I'll ever get from them as from now on I told em I'll be working and making it on my own. I've always wanted a LP (who doesn't?), and I was able to get an awesome ebony Studio that's got a solid feel and plays great. I wanted the Heritage Cherry model, but that's nowhere to be found at the music stores around here. I was thinking about having it ordered then exchanging mine, but I've taken a liking to it already and I think this is the one.

My brother visiting from the UK got me this sweet little Orange amp that I picked out over the other mini-amps - the ones from Fender and Marshall just didn't cut it for me as a travel amp as they're made from plastic and seem to be susceptible to breaking easily. My kickass girlfriend also got me the last amp I'll ever need as a bedroom player (Blues Junior), and should even hold up if ever I get to to do small gigs. Previously I've been using a Vox AD15VT and Fender Champ 600 which are both great, but ohhh man.. this BJ is something else and I'm completely satisfied with the sounds I can get from it.

That's pretty much it - I'm done with gear for now and it feels good getting great gifts from loved ones. Oh yeah - grats to all of you who managed to graduate this year as well! |

Congrats of graduating... .well done and good luck with the Les Paul..i love them they are great guitars probably won't happen for a good a while but i want to get my hands on one as well..i love to old deluxe with the mini humbuckers.....as the Doc said your a lucky man to have a girlfriend that buys you a valve amp..... although Mrs F has turned a blind eye on more than one occasion to my G.A.S.... i would have no worries with the Blues jr on gigs..if you need more volume just put a mic like a Shure SM 57 in front and shove it through the P.A.......nice Fenders BTW.. is the strat original 70's....??...you now have the three classic guitars..Les Paul,Strat and Tele and of course your Boss pedals. .world domination awaits....!!!... |

Thanks a lot everyone! Even now I've still got a huge grin as I wake up to my new gear.
Franzoni, that was actually all that I wanted since the beginning - to get a decent Tele, Strat and LP. Sad to say though, the SG doesn't appeal to me at all (could just be for the moment). But for now my GAS has completely settled down and I feel I've got everything I need to just simply focus on my playing. That's not a 70's strat though, good eye by the way! The similarities are close but it's a Highway 1 model; they were actually designed to mimic the 70's CBS ones haha!

Congrats JG.
I don't believe for a second that your GAS is cured. It's just having a break |

Yeah I have to admit.. even as I was typing that line I knew inside that no GAS is completely eliminated. As someone even mentioned on another forum, getting a LP studio is just the beginning.. it's the gateway that leads to standards, customs, etc.. |

JG:
congrats on your first paul. welcome to credit card hell :)
two bits of advice from a former gibson addict...
1. www.wichitaband.com used to have (haven't gotten a price list from them in a while) the best price on gibsons in north america. like... new ones for cheaper than used ones and usually $500-1500 cheaper than guitar center. the last les paul standard i bought was in 2001 for $1179 at wichita band and guitar center had em for $2300.
2. if you do get hooked on em there's a few oddball models out there that are spec'd similarly to the "good ones" but for a lot cheaper since they're under the radar. gibson "the paul II", gibson "the paul SL" and the gibson "all american les paul" are three that are rare to come by but tend to go for way cheap. these aren't to be confused with "the paul" series from the 70's. these were mid-late 90's. basically, the all american and paul II were les paul studios that were even more aesthetically stripped (dot inlays, plain headstock, no pickguard, uncovered pickups, etc.) and with a different finish... but it was a real finish, not like the faded finishes of now. the paul SL was a thinner body but similar to the paul II (was slightly thinner than the thinner body les paul studio that came out in the late 90's w/ the mini-trapazoid inlays). anything with "lite" in the name generally is way cheap too. |
