Hi guys,

okay so I got this Thiele Cabient today which is 8Ohm and has a parallel out.... I've got another cabinet which has 8Ohm as well.... what happens if I connect them together... how much Ohms do I end up with

or does parallel mean it will stay 8 Ohm....

and what would be serial in that case.

thanks
mully

Connect them together in parallel will half the value (R=(R1*R2)/(R1+R2)if that makes sense) so two 8 Ohm speakers will become a 4 Ohm load. Connect them in series and you can add up the Ohm values so this will result in a 16 Ohm load.

The easy calculation above is not perfectly correct. Speakers contain coils so we're not talking resistances anymore but instead we have impedances. To make matters worse, they may have different characteristics at different frequencies. Most of the time you start rounding off numbers after a while and you end up with the 4 or 16 ohm result anyway

if you can download a PDF of your amp ... you *may* get some specific advice for how to use the extention speaker jacks on your amp - boogie provides what's acceptable for their amps ... this is from The Lonestar V1 manual:

Go here: http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Lonestar.pdf
and read from Page 25 on.

btw the bias adjustment article, just before this (ends on page 24 is good reading too)
