I guess we are making the assumption that we remember all of the shows we have attended. I've been to a few hundred so here is what I can remember.....
Robben Ford Joe Satch SRV Scott Henderson Tuck Andress (sooo under-rated) John Scofield Pat Metheny EVH Eric Clapton Alex Lifeson David Gilmore Trey Anastasio Vernon Reed Jerry Garcia Pete Towsend Jimmy Herring Warren Haynes Jeff Beck Carlos Santana Drew Zigg (W/ Steely Dan) Steve Howe Billy Gibbons
I'm sure there are more that I just can't remember right now.
EDIT: I'll add as I remember more. |

Definitely jealous about Hendrix. For me off the top of my head
Angus Young Jerry Garcia Warren Haynes Dicky Betts Steve Kimock Alex Liefson David Gilmour Kirk Hammett James Hetfield Jorma Kaukonen BB King Trey Anastasio Eddie Van Halen The guys from String Cheese Incident The guys from Judas Priest The guys from Iron Maiden Edit - Stanley Jordan
This excludes bass players (Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Lemmy etc.)
That's all I can think of now. |

hi all
Mark Knopfler Albert Lee Eric Clapton Joe Satriani Steve Vai John Maclaughlin Steely Dan...(around 96 i'm not 100% who was with them playing off becker) Robben Ford Louis Stewart...(irish jazz head) Gary Moore The Edge Domnic Miller (with sting, very underrated guitar player) Andy Summers (with the police) Richard Thompson (on his own with just an acoustic...amazing)
i've also seen countless session heads playing with bands here and down at the Cork international jazz festival over the years...i think i might of seen the great Herb Ellis one year but i had a lot of these during the day so i can't really remember too good.. .......i know i had breakfast beside chick corea's band one morning and ended up talking to weckl and john patucci, gambale wasn't there at the time.... i would of liked to have met him......

Short list for me as well, as I do not go out to see many gigs:
Pat Metheny Group--Liked this gig, very warm and human, even though he was playing with his full band [about 10 people on stage]--
Buddy Guy:--He did not do an encore, and the audience did not love him for doing so..........--
Joe Satriani:--Songs sounded as from the recording, not much talking in between the songs, he did disappoint me somewhat--
Jeff Beck:--He seemed to be nervous, it was the tour from the "GuitarShop" album, around '92, he did not talk at all!! I do not care how good you are, you need to connect with your audience by showing some kind of human emotion!!--
First line-up of the Chilli Peppers:--This was part of a festival and they played during the afternoon, never a good time to play really, their guitarplayer showed his buttocks to the audience, did they love him for that? As response they threw sand in his face. A year later he was dead!!--
the Pretenders: --Great gig, Chrissy was very warm and played well, they played almost three hours, it must have been '95 and they played all their hits plus the songs in between, really enjoyed the show, just as much as everyone else who was there at the time.--
Bill Frisell--Jazzgig, they often seem to be very different: more open and relaxed, I like that for my own gigs as well. He played well, did talk a lot and does have a great sense of humour. That is how things should be when you are exposing yourself to an audience--
Paco Pena: --Great gig, he had some pretty girls around him to do the flamenco dancing, and overal was a very warm gig, not just a show-off for his playing skills!!--
There must be a host of others I cannot seem to recal. The gig with Paco Pena should have been with Joe Pass, but he was not there, a year later he died, so never got to see him. Was heavily into Jazz at that time [heh learning all about the guitar, your teachers will get you into it even if you never really cared that much for Bebop..........] |
