So I opened one of my two DS-1's to examine someone's homemade "Keeley SEM" mod. They were a bit sloppy with the soldering... a wire they added broke loose from its joint.
Anyway, I figured I'd open my other stock DS-1 to compare, and I see they each have a different chip.
The modded pedal (date unknown) has one labelled: BA728N 907 H10
The stock pedal (mfg. May 2006) has the markings: M5223AL 607002
Both pedals have very similar PCB boards... The unknown date one is marked "Citizen ASS' 70562634" and the 2006 version has "Citizen ASS' 70562634RO" on the component side.
On the solder side of the board, the unknown date pedal is marked "DS-1 2291732602 1/4" while the 2006 version has "DS-1 22917326RO 1/4".
Other than the different chips, other components look similar. Just throwing that out there.
I looked at that and see that from the description my "unknown date" pedal is probably from the mid-nineties.
Browsing around at some old threads, I noticed also that there is a "new" resistor in the newer versions - R40. Sure enough, R40 is there in the 2006 pedal but missing from the older one.
Another interesting thing - all of the Boss pedals I've looked in have the resistors soldered in horizontally, making it easier to see the various components. But the old Ibanez delay that I'm trying to figure out has the resistors mounted vertically with one wire bent -- probably so they could cram more stuff on the small PCB.
