My new bass...

It's a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass

I swapped it for my Jaguar Bass (previous post) and paid a little extra. The Jag Bass was nice but it's far too neck heavy & doesn't play as nice as the Jazz. I've never played a Jaguar Guitar but I assume they don't have the same balance problem. The Jag's horn is just way too small to support the extra weight of the Bass neck...

Hi natthu

Nice swap, & so shinny.

What's the tone like with the maple neck?

Regards Dr. Bob

As far as I can tell the maple neck gives you a slightly clearer tone. However, I've never owned a guitar this expensive, or anything with a maple neck before so I don't really have a lot to compare it to (just guitars I've played with in shops). It did sound clearer than the Fender Highway One Jazz Bass I tried, and it was a lot nicer than the Mexican version.

Generally I prefer a more thumpy muddy tone - I also own a Tele (which I love). Fortunately the tone range is quite good on the Jazz so I can still get what I like and it's always good to have the option of clear tone as well (for those occasions when you need to punch through the mix). I'm thinking of trying to get a Boss PQ-3b to assist with occasional punch as I've heard they're good for that...

Yeah, it came with the new style SKB case with awesomely huge latches which, (according to my guitar shop guy) "even the highest junkie can't break into"....

Your tele will love it.

Hi Guys

It's not well known, but those new cases,
have an ATA/ASA - Air Transport Authority - Air Safety Authority,
Xray Scanner profile that is instantly recognized world wide.

These are the scanners that are used in all Major airports worldwide.
You will have little difficulty getting your much loved Axe onto a plane,
if you gig & travel by air a lot.

This was all implemented, sometime soon after all the craziness of 911.
Not to mention, that it is one tough Mofo of a case.
Not 100% certain, but I was told by someone in the know, that they,
may also be micro-chipped, like my puppy, & have an individually recognized ID.

I know I'll be getting one for my Blackie & the 52RI Tele.

Regards Dr. Bob

Yeah It arrived for my birthday in Febuary, such a good case. It fits so tightly in & theres space for srap, lead, tuner ect

I was nervous taking it in to school, knowing 650+ of MY equpment was in the music room :S

EDIT: Oh and Dr Bob, the skb has TSA locks, locks which can be opened by airport staff so they dont have to smash your locks in.

Somewhere on the forum I recently saw some Yamaha SG2000 posts and I meant to post some pictures if my SG175 but I forgot until now so here it is. This is actually the precursor to the 2000 and I think what Santana's was based on. I haven't got a Les Paul (also have a Strat and a PRS24) but this feels very much like one. Needs better pickups one day though. I picked it up in the late 80s in a shop full of pointy headstock things.

archimedes...

That's one nice guitar - almost Zemaitis like on that binding - I've never seen one before. Thanks for showing it to us.

Thanks

Here's a bit of text from Ray Fenwick's site...

In 1977, whilst touring Japan as part of the Ian Gillan Band, I was given two superb guitars by Yamaha - a SG1000 and 2000. These guitars were developed from the SG175 of which only 600 were made, the best known being the custom-version owned by Carlos Santana. Of the two guitars, the 1000 has become my firm favourite.

The inlays on the neck and body are a bit special so it is surprising just to find a transfer on the headstock. The pick guard was missing when I got it.

At risk of being ostracised by all the cool kids on the forum, I proudly display my new guitar...

Now before anyone says "that's not a real guitar!"... actually it is. It's a 3/4 scale (about the same length as to the second fret on my tele)...

Yes, this is a Hannah Montana guitar. But the funny thing is it's made by Washburn and it plays very nice. I've been mucking around with it for a day now and I'm beginning to really like it. The tone isn't horrible, and to top it off I payed a mere AU$30 for it NEW plus $15 postage...(they retail here for something like AU$150).

I'm not going to sell my tele over this (who would?), but I'd definitely whip this baby out at gigs. It should contrast nicely with my guitarist's Gibbo Flying-V he keeps threatening to buy... Ha!
