Hi Guys Just a quick heads up & cation about using the old forum search.
It bogs down the forum very heavily when someone is using it. In fact it just about stops access to other users. I have noticed that the forum has bogged down a few time over the past week or so, perhaps for this reason.
So please use the old search as little as possible. It's one of the reasons Bossarea-ADMIN removed the link.
It's far better to for to Google or you favorite search engine. With the simple addition addition it can give really fast & more up to date search.
Because our forum is very active. The spiders/bots visit here very frequently & update the search tables on their respective search engines.
For example if you are searching for: pedal mockups
Then in the search box type:
pedal mockups site:bossarea.com or pedal mockups site=bossarea.com
Believe me it returns very accurate & very fast results. compared to the old slow forum search function. Both Laurie & I have been using this as our main search for posts and topics on bossarea & other sites.
I know Laurie uses altavista.com
and I use a combination of google.com and altavista.com
I hope this helps you all find stuff much faster. plus it will be less taxing on the forum's code & servers.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hi Dr.Bob. Didn't realise that was why the old search was taken down. I only found it yesterday, so if the forums been bogged down lately, I doubt it's because of this. I only used it as I didn't realise you could search in the manner you have described, and I couldn't find an old post using the search. Feel free to delete these posts if you don't want the old search getting used, but a sticky thread with the info. you gave on searching using google etc. would be nice? |

I don't mind that the link is there. It tends to lock up the forum while a search is running but unless we start seeing more problems we can just leave it in there.
If I wasn't so lazy I would of replaced the search with a google search. That's really what I intended to do from the beginning but they've hidden the information so well on their pages that I ended up putting in a live search instead. |

Hi DasBeef, Franzoni, jackderringer & guys
As Bossarea-ADMIN mentioned, it's ok to use it, but sparingly.
To be really honest, I very occasionally use it, to find buried posts, that might not have been referenced yet by the search engine spiders/bots.
I limit my search to a very short set of to/from dates. As if you let it run for a longer periods, you will experience a "Forum Timeout"
I have yet to ascertain how quickly the spider/bots reference new topics & posts on our forum.
But it's not a long time, I occasionally setup a set of search parameters in Altavista & Google for new posts, so far it appears that the Altavista spiders visit here more often. But like everything on the net, that could change in a pico-second. (or do they spell spiders - spyders?)
