Hi MERCYFULFATE
I have an MZ-2, Christo has one as well, if I remember correctly.
It's the pedal I have a love-hate relationship with. But I will not get rid of it or sell it.
Have you ever tried to run it on about 8V? or less (flat battery mode).
You'll Be very surprised, the processor goes into a strange Robotic noises effect. Best to do this with a variable power supply.
See I'm giving away all my best kept secrets... ...
Regards Dr. Bob |

| I'm not sure if Gilmour ever used one. I've never come across any pictures where he's had one on his pedal board. There are pictures of him with an HM-3 though. |

MZ-2 is a nice pedal to play around with, it can make some serious noises. Without delay or chorus I think the distortion is not that good, but with one of them it sound good enough for me. It sounds way better used in stereo with two amps. But as Dr Bob writes, its a love/hate pedal.

Hi Christo
The MZ-2 draws far too much current to really experiment with an almost dead battery, it won't give you enough time to play. You really need to be able to control the voltage, that's why I suggested a variable power supply.

Think i have a link on how to make one of those, but I'll have to put it on the back burner for now. Too much on the go at the moment, mod wise. Finish my ODrive, rehouse a Dano pedal, tweek my friends bass, and of course there still that 'old tube radio turned amp' i havent even started... |

Christo is right, he uses it on on the intro to sorrow, I think on the second chorus setting. There is a picture of his board with it somewhere. Also check out http://www.gilmourish.com/ for any other Dave Gilmour pedal board queries, I believe he did use a HM-2 for a while. Try running it with a compressor set for riffing beforehand and a ge-7 equaliser scooped for a very saturated metal tone that walks all over the metal zone. I wouldn't use an MZ-2 as my tone base without compressor and Eq though. Also if you route the stereo out into the input it sort of self oscillates but you don't have much control over it. However, if you feed it into a delay pedal then you can get some excellent knob-twiddling sounds. Probably a little too fiddly for live but interesting for recording... It's also nice for sheer noise in a shoe-gazey kind of way. |

His blog site has answers to a few gear questions as well.
