Check out wikipedia...
And instead of starting from scratch, maybe try one of these out first: www.buildyourownclone.com The BYOC kits are addictive, but they also come with directions and schematics so you can sort of learn by doing. I started doing their kits about 2 years ago, and they changed my life as now I am in school studying electronics...
Disclaimer: Yes, I am a mod there at BYOC, but even if I wasn't, I would tell you to go there anyways because other than here and the TDPRI site, its about the only other cool forum on the net... |

how does the buildyourownclone extra vintage fuzz sound?
edit: actually how do they all sound? Do they really live up to the vintage sounds? |

The Extra Vintages have actually just been introduced, so I have a couple on their way to me, but out of the previous versions of the Ultimate and Bender fuzzes, I liked the Bender the most. However, my favorite fuzz from the is the Large Beaver, and I am getting ready to build some of the new versions of that kit. I think all the BYOC kits sound good, and they are true bypass and also AC adapter compatible. I also like their overdrive, the phaser, chorus, tremolo and digital delay, though they just introduced a new version of the delay that I have yet to try out... |

Hey FatsoForgotso... there are a lot of goot books out there too. I got most of my early info from a good ole book called "How to Build and Use Electronic Devices Without Frustration, Panic, Mountains of Money, or an Engineering Degree".
Something like that would be a good introduction plus a handy reference.

lemme know about that fuzz, I'm really interested in a cheap vintage sounding fuzz and I'd like to actually learn something about my pedals etc. |

Sure thing, but BYOC pedals are the sh!t man, and right now they are having a buy 3-get 1 free sale on their kits...They get good reviews and are spoken of highly if you look around the web. The kits come with all the stuff you'll need, you just need to provide the solder and soldering iron.
Here's some things I am working on, or have made:

I just like how you can design the enclosures as well, so you can make a FatsoForgotso Fuzz... |
