I believe this was owned/displayed by the now-defunct Ed's Guitars, in Miami:

yes, that guitar has a toilet seat for a body.

| looks like that vinyl seat would provide a lot of damping to make it sound like crap. |

Sorry guys, I couldn't resist the temptation. Besides The-Destructor, would have probably come up with it anyway, or WORSE.

Still a favorite of mine from a design standpoint. Minimalism perfected. Mr. Gittler nailed it with this. I actually played one of these once, sounded like dogshit the preamps were complete crap. Took a bit of getting used to.

Of course The BirdFish is another excellent example of design. This particular example belongs to David Torn. Monster player.

Zeena Parkins with her electric harp. I think Ken Parker built this for her. Dig the 3 fretless strings on the upright with tremolo. ( okay it ain't a guitar but a solid 9 on the cool scale )

Japanoise crew Solmania with two of their sonic paint brushes. They really do make a joyful noise.

it's a *bass* guitar, but howzabout the Atlansia Solitaire?
http://www.atlansia.jp/SOLITAIRE.HTML
it is perhaps an even more minimalist design than the Gittler... the only time I've ever actually seen one was when Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes) played one live in the mid-1990s, specifically for their song "Dance Motherfucker Dance".... |
