Hey FenderStrat & hateandwar,
Its great to see some other Ford fans around here, here is my 1997 EL Falcon Futura:

Mine is also a 4.0L six with some mild mods including Castle headers, 2.5 inch mandrel bent custom exhaust, AU XR8 air intake, K&N high flow filter, AU XR8 leather MOMO steering wheel, and custom stereo install I did myself. Future plans include a manual box and 3.5:1 LSD diff.
We met in 2001 and 260,000kms later she's never let me down.

Hi 0110402712 = (18) easier to remember - no disrespect. quote:

Nice to see you back.
Is the Monaro one of your fixer-uppers? I never knew you had one.
It's been ages since we caught up. We'll have to make a real effort to (do lunch) soon.
How's that Candy Cola Strat of yours?
Regards Dr. Bob

260,000kms? Wow, is those pix taken before or after that? Great looking Ford. Are they still making Falcons in Australia now? I rented the Ford Falcon in 89' while in Perth. It was great and the car was brand new, only had something like 130kms on it when I got it. Thanks for posting those pix. |

Actually, my previous car was a Ford Focus wagon, like the one in the pic and I never really liked it. The steering was off, a light on the dashboard kept blinking without reason, and the worst part was the moisture. It had a leak somewhere, I just couldn't get it dry, it literally had the fungus growing inside from under the carpet. I had it for a year and then I was glad to trade it in for the Peugeot.
It looked like this one:

Our Ford transit van for the band has been a disaster since we got it...cutting out on the way to gigs, steering pump trouble, injector mistimed, diesel pump trouble, central locking cutting in and out...etc...a real friday afternoon van... ..we have had to get a lot of things fixed up on her but hopfully thats the end of it now....i think with fords(or possibly just european fords) have a bad name for relibility especially the transits in the last few years.... |

Well from my experiences, every auto maker has a lemon or two in their product line somewhere. I would say that the Focus could be one of those by Ford. I drove a Focus that my friend was using as a rental while her real car was in the shop being worked on. I wasn't at all impressed with the interior design of the Focus one bit. Even Japanese made cars have lemon models too, like the Honda Del Sol. I had a co-worker with one of those once and it was a real piece.
Recently I drove our company car which is a Dodge Magnum. Not sure if I'm spoiled because my daily driver is a 5 series BMW, but the Magnum is trash in my opinion. Or our company bought their Magnum used and it was a lemon to begin with. It was loud, you could hear all sorts of noise through the firewall and the car would clatter when the gas pedal was pushed and shimmy and shake when the brakes would be applied. It looked new though.
Seriously, I've lost most of my interest for American made cars, with the exception of the older models. Older American made cars are nice, but when American auto makers started to compete with the Japanese starting in the 80's, workmanship on these American made cars took a nose dive. And that's bad news coming from someone who has owned the same Trans Am since it was new (my wife's recreational vehicle now - as quoted from our insurance company). The Trans Am is my wife's very first car, but my very first vehicle I got was a 68' Ford F-150 Custom Cab, short bed and a 390 engine with an automatic transmission in it. That truck was very fun, great time in my life to have such a vehicle....during my last few years of high school. And back then gas was under a $1.00 per gallon so I was really able to afford driving it everywhere. That truck was more like a sports car, I could take corners going sideways like in the movies and I did quite frequently at that. I miss her when I think about those times..... My wife still has her first vehicle, but I had sold my first one long ago. |

Hey Jake,
Thanks bud. I like your ute too, I bet you get asked all the time to help friends move. I love aussie Fords, tough and built to last.
Luckily I have a mate who is a mechanic so I have access to a workshop with hoist and cheap parts so I've been able to do almost everything myself. They are pretty simple cars to work on compared to some of the newer stuff with spaghetti under the bonnet.
Wow your still running the original? I had a new head unit all ready to go before I even bought the car, the original was removed I think the day after I bought it. Grab yourself a new head unit, replace the door/dash speakers with some splits, stick a little sub box behind your seats and you'll be set.

Thanks FenderStrat86, these pics are recent, I figure if you take care of your car it'll take care of you.
Yes Falcons are still being made in Australia, there have been plenty of models since mine came out. The following Wikipedia page has plenty of info if your interested in finding out more:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Falcon then click on Ford Falcon (Australia).
On an unrelated topic, how do we get ( and ) brackets to show up correctly within the forum URL tags? It seems to remove them. I also tried the equivalent coded character set codes but that didn't work either. |

Thanks mate, yeah i do get asked all the time, infact i had to help my mate on the weekend move from st kilda to dandenong On sunday too, which was skinking hot!
Yeah still the original unforunatley. One speaker is blown too. Ill definatley be getting a new head unit for cds, because the original is cassette. Can you say old school? And ill replace the 6 inch speakers in the dash, and most likley cut some holes in the doors for some extra ones. Im not too sure on the sub though, theres not alot of room since its a bench seat.
Can you please recommend some good brands i should be looking at in the head unit / speaker department? |

Wow, that car looks awesome for 260,000kms. Your right that if you really take care of a car it should last forever. My wife takes care of her car pretty much like you take care of yours and so her's looks completely brand new also and her's is a 87' with over 250,000 miles on it.
Do they have Ford Mustangs in Australia? What's the overall feeling for Mustangs in Australia?
About the stereo products, I don't really know about that anymore. Personally I used to prefer Alpine products. But that was years ago and I'm sure there are new companies out there now that are just as good if not better. I remember when my parents cars had 8 tracks in them. Now that's going back some years! |
