Hi Guys,

Anyone use/used the Boss Bass synth with a guitar rather than a bass? If so, how does it sound?

I've tested it but only brifely. First impression is that it sounds very similar to what it does with a bass guitar but it has more difficulty tracking the notes.

the higher up the fretboard you get aswell, the worse it tracks.

a topic for me ?

OK : a friend of mine played once his guitar with the SYB-3, slow chords, with a clear sound, and the bass synth followed with a random bassline.

strange music.

I occasionaly use a SYB-3, with an LM-2 Limiter after it to level out the spiking.

Today I played a guitar into an EH Bass Micro Synth, and I was getting some crazy sounds. I probably wouldn't intend on using any kind of synth pedal for faithful synth replication and great quality, just for awesome sounds, so I guess I'd be open to using an SYB-3 or -5 with a guitar if I had one just laying around.

I have used SYB-3 a lot with guitar, it tracks good if you pick carefully, a compressor in front makes things easier.
Above fret 12 or something on the high E-string it doesnt track well at all.
I like the sounds produced a lot, you can get some really weird sounds. Combined with delay, chorus, flanger etc you have a nice palette to work with.

I have an SYB-5 that I occasionally use with regular guitar. I mostly hate it though. It's really a one-trick pony (for guitar) compared to another unit I have, the Line 6 FM-4, which tracks much better for guitar anyway.

intersting thread ... i once used an ARP AVATAR, and that was one wierd box. lots of R2-D2 sounds generated by a guitar.

Is this kinda what the syb does?

The Avatar is a bit more sonically sophisticated than the SYB. The described R2-D2 sounds come from the flexible LFO which can do ramp waves. I sold my SYB-3 years ago, though I was impressed by hearing how a local band was using one live (though with a BASS). It just does not compare, for my purposes to my old reliable Roland GR-300, though I have to nurse that long multi pin cord. It is not as user friendly as the SYB models and actually lacks some of the flexibility of the less reliable Arp Avatar. I think that I had more success while using the neck pickups with the SYB-3, never tried the SYB-5.
