| Yeah, do it. I need a proper good Fuzz pedal. No brand bias. Just a real good fuzz.... |

Hi DasBeef
Goran (Mr. Fuzz Face to me ) is the man to ask. He has a collection of different ones, & has even built up a kit or two.
A while back he sent me a FF sch. from some German/Swedish kit, & it looked pretty good.
I belive his latest love was a Fuzz from MI-Audio here in Oz.

what kind of fuzz are you looking for?
- if you want a brittle-yet-musical Fuzz Face-esque sound, the best I've ever heard is the Analog Man NKT 275 Sun Face, but it's quite expensive; a more affordable option would be to try one of the newer Dunlop fuzz pedals.
- if you need a high-output thick Muff-esque fuzz, the current issue E-H Little Big Muff is great -- nothing can top the output of a Big Muff. in this flavor of fuzz, I would rank the DOD FX52 Classic Fuzz and the Boss PW-2 Power Driver in second and third place, respectively, both in tone and in output.
- if you need a really harsh (metallic-sounding) fuzz, the ProCo Vintage Rat or Boss FZ-2 (mode 2?) would be worth checking out. the DOD FX69 Grunge pedal might also be of interest, as it is more of a fuzz than a distortion pedal, and tend to be very cheap as well.
among the other brands of fuzz that I haven't had any experience with, the Z-Vex Fuzz Factory is highly regarded but highly expensive. E-H also makes a few different types of fuzz pedals that might be worth looking into. |

Cheers for the replies. And so quick. I have a EHX Double Muff, that I'm not really happy with. I have heard a pedal on YouTube which I am very impressed with called a Shoe Gazer, but it's about 180. I just cant justify spunking that on one pedal. I have had an interest in the Burford Electronics Britt Face for a while, but I don't know of anyone who has owned one on any forum. I'd prefer an honest user review before I buy. That pedal will cost me just over 60, which I'd be hapy with, if I was happy with the pedal. I do like the Burford Electronics Lo-Fli I have, which is one of the reasons the Britt Face interests me. I have also had my eye on the FZ-2 obviously, but they always go for more than I'm willing to shell out. I also do fancy breaking away from the boss family for this one. No offence guys! :o) |

| Yeah... the FZ-2 is truly a nice pedal. Picked up a broken one and fixed it (couldn't justify the crazy BIN prices). |

I have settled on a Russian EHX MkII Big Muff. I don't personally know how they compare to the NYC versions or your Double Muff, but I've heard that the Russian ones are creamier and have a better low end.
I've only used a few different Fuzz pedals over the years but I always come back to the MkII. They are particularly good if you want to run Bass through them aswell as guitar.
On the Cons side of things, MkII's do weigh a tonne and the prices on eBay are getting ridiculous... MkIII's (current model) are quite similar but a lot lighter, smaller and cheaper.... |

MkII is the "green" one? I have one too... "built like tank"! Sounds great! |

Yeah, the MkII is the green one from the mid nineties. The MkI seems to be a fair bit rarer - it's also green (I've not seen one in person)... and the MkIII is the current smaller black one... The really cool thing is there are all these weird rare in between versions. I have a big black MkII with an MkIII switch... They all sound great too! |

| I'm a bit of a fuzz geek and I've owned a bunch. Really depends on what type of fuzz sounds you're going for. Zeppelin? Hendrix? Gilmour? Corgan? 60's biker fuzz? Any examples of sounds you'd like to cop? |

I would say Big Muff, but if you don't like the Double Muff, maybe check out a Way Huge Swollen Pickle. Haven't tried one yet but I heard a few very good demos and a few people who really love it. |

| man you must look into Austone's Fuzz Nutz,if it's over the top wooly madness you're seeking...but if you're looking for a fuzz that chords great and is suttle...the Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face(the one based on the Arbiter)is the way to go...i spent yrs looking for that Big Brother & Holding Company fuzz tone and these 2 boxes finally got me there.... |

The one that does it for me DB is the DAM Meathead - a simple box with one big fat knob called DIRT - juicy, squashy and cleans up great with the guitar volume. Got mine for 51 off ebay but haven't seen one for yonks and I suspect I was very fortunate with the price if other DAM stuff is anything to go by - big prices!
The other one that comes close is my Frantone 'The Sweet' - more extreme and sometimes difficult to control though. There's plenty more fuzz in my sonic arms dump - and if you have anything else in mind, I might be able to give you a view.
I do have Burford Britt Face and it's ok but a bit on the weak side for me - the voice control is useful but I find it needs a booster before it to juice it up a bit (I use an MXR Microamp) to get it sounding fuzzier. |

Wow The_Doc, you actually own a Britt Face!!! Your the first person I've ever heard of who has one! Cheers for the review. After posting this last night, I have just won a FZ-2 on eBay for the crazy price of 34.53. I shall have a good play with this once it arrives. Don't make this stop this topic however. I may not be impressed with the FZ-2, and may go a different route, so keep up the responses. Also, it seems to have gotten some very different responses. |

I like my FZ-2 - it's a nice fuzz and a versatile pedal, but it's all down to personal preference. 34.53 is awesome! I paid US$50 for a broken one and paid $17 for the parts to fix it (going rate is over $100 here).

Hi DasBeef
Congrats, on the FZ-2
Watch the Boost-Mode.
Keep a change of clean undies close by, I nearly soiled mine, the first time I flipped it to Boost-Mode & started grinding away.
It's a really loud Booster, especially in to a tube amp, with lots of headroom.
I've never actually worked out just how many db of boost it's capable of, but I did warn you.

There are a lot of good fuzzes out there in the boutique world, but many are costly (brand new anyway).. at the top end, I played a friend's D*A*M Fuzzaround and it was incredible.. but I would never spend the $. I think you could get two vintage muffs for the price. Around here there are some hobbyists selling home-made fuzzes too..
Have you tried any variants of the metal muff? Or the new Germanium OD from EHX?
