Have you ever have a pedal chain, that for whatever reason, you decided to get rid of. And now, in retrospect, you wish you had some or all of the components back. Well, here's the thread to toot your horn or kick yourself in the chones, for all to see. I personally, have been playing for about 32 years now & have went through tons of equipment changes. Most have been for the better, but some of those I wish I still had.
I decided to post this here because, back in the day, I didn't own ANY Boss pedals. Boss is a relatively new experience for me, & I'd have to say I'm very glad I made the leap. I probably would not have written this post if it were not for Dr. Bob's request and seeming interest in my experience & I'm sure your experiences as well. Give 'er hell.

So it was around 1977 (I was 11 years old) when I started getting pedals for what became, I thought at that time, a great pedal board. My first pedal was a Maestro fuzz pedal. Big ugly wah-looking thing with dials on the side that you could turn with your feet. Hated it, took it back and started with an MXR Distortion + (block logo). That was later set aside for some type of DOD distortion. Anyhow, here's what my line-up looked like by the early 80's.
Ibanez CP 10 Compressor ->
DOD FX55B Supra Dist or FX56 American Metal (don't remember) ->
Dunlop Cry-Baby (Model???) ->
DOD FX65 Stereo Chorus ->
DOD FX35 Octoplus ->
Electro-Harmonix Bad Stone Phaser ->
DOD FX90 Delay ->
Set that aside and used
Yamaha DDS-20M Delay ->
Heil Sound Talk Box ->
Real funny thing is I was using the Talk Box without a mic & just had excessive raw wattage into my mouth. 9 out of 10 Dentists surveyed recommend not being stupid enough to do this.
So, it's now the mid 80's and everyone is switching to rack-mounted & so did I, PAWNING OFF ALL THOSE PEDALS. I started with a Digitech GSP-5, then a Furman PL-Plus, then an ADA MP-1,then my Marshall 8008 Valvestate, and finally Digitech TSR-24. The trick here is kiddies, I still have all my rack stuff & still use most of it. I recently picked up a Digitech GSP-7 to fart around with as well (CHEAP).
Back to square one. Still kicking myself in the ass over "the lost pedals", I recently began re-acquiring some of them. So far only the FX65 & the Heil Sound are back in my collection. I WILL re-acquire the Distortion +, the CP-10, the Bad Stone & the DDS-20M. The rest, maybe, but probably not.
If there is a lesson & warning I would wish to impart upon you, it would be :
Please second & triple guess yourself before getting rid of ANY EQUIPMENT.
I'm sure my tale will be dwarfed, in comparison, by others. I hope I've opened some eyes with this post though.

Nothing wrong with DOD's, as the Classic Fuzz FX52 is still one of my all time favorite fuzzes  |

I�ll agree on DOD FX52, really nice fuzz!! Buy one if you find one, usually very cheap. |

I still have my CP10 Compressor and a later Soundtank CP5.
I was smart enough to keep my 71-ish JEN CryBaby - Real Red Fasel,
sweet as fresh honey on warm toast,
even still have the original dark blue vinyl carry case..
I recently got another later JEN with a white Fasel, this one kicks butt.
The only bit of gear I don't have, & sold off when I was about 17-18 is my 64 Fender Strat.
I don't feel too back about it, as I sold it for twice what I paid for it, & bought a Fuji Gen Gakki fitted with the them Roland analog Guitar synth.
The Fuji Gen Gakki is a much better guitar, Laurie will attest to that.
Kept my old 1971-2 Korg Mini700 mono analog fat synth.
and almost everything else since then, I learned my lesson with the Strat.
Over the years, I have been luck at times, when someone will give me back a pedal I donated or loaned to them.
Just recently I got back a really old Chorus & from another person, I got back my Boss DR-110 drum computer.
rant mode off for now, but you started it...

in the mid-90's i picked up a set of original ibanez 9 series pedals for dirt cheap.
had most of em at one point but had settled in with the TS9, CS9, PQ9, AD9, and FL9.
ended up selling em off before they went way up in value. i made profit on em, but basically got about 1/3 of what they are worth now.
honestly, i wouldn't doubt if i decide to purge my pedals again... seeing as i don't use pedals playing live (aside from a TU-2). |

i got stung on a deal we had in my first band to buy a P.A. and ended up with a credit note for �400 punts(old irish money before the euro) anyway the shop delt in MXR or DOD pedals and the guy behind the counter(who actually was ok as i was a complete beginner) recommended the DOD as i would get more for my money.. my first three pedals was the FX 55 overdrive plus,the FX 65 stereo chorus and a digitech 2002 digital delay....i ended up with the compressor and their graphic EQ pedal as well i also upgraded(sold on... ) to buy a digitech rackmount ..the GSP 21..in hindsight i should of just got another overdrive pedal and used the GSP 21 for the mod/delay effects..i could never get a dirty sound out of it i liked.....eventully it was stolen on me after a gig.... thats when i went boss..a guy across the road was selling the OD-2 for 40 quid so thats what got me going...i still have the DOD treble booster somewhere aroud the house..the only thing i noticed with DOD is that their a bit noiser than boss(more hiss even in bypass) and the battery compartment keeps going missing unless you tape it on,but i gigged with that pedalboard for about 4/5 years without too much trouble..... |
