I've heard them a few times and I love the sound. I can imagine using both the chorus and vibrato functions of this pedal. Frankly, to me it even sounds better than the CE-2...
so my question is: should I dish out several hundred for one on ebay? is it worth it? how would you guys compare it to the (much cheaper) CE-2? |

haha really? well I agree that the CE-2 sounds quite amazing as well, but the CE-1 is ultimate. I wanted to get a CE-2 for a long time before I heard a CE-1, and I freaked out.
The CE-1 also features a quite awesome tremelo function. |

The CE-1 does have the vibrato function built in. From what I've researched the CE-2 also adds a midrange boost when activated, something I have mixed feelings about. I've never tried a CE-1 but I'm assuming that it doesn't have the mid boost the CE-2 does. But hey, if you prefer the CE-1 then that's what you need to go for! |

CE-2 is an okay imitation of a real pulsing dual speaker chorus.. IF the CE-1 is really identical to the JC chorus circuit, I can imagine it's a lot richer and more leslie-like than any mono detune-style chorus can be.
I love the CE-2, and while I haven't heard a CE-1, I've heard lots of JC amps do their thing. Anyone heard both to state a comparison?

| If you just want the CE-1 sound, get the Retro-sonic Chorus. It is basically a clone of the CE-1 and it completely nails the CE-1 sound. |

I actually have tried both the retro sonic and the CE-1, on several occasions, and I must say that even though the retro sonic comes close, the CE-1 just has that x factor that the retro sonic doesnt. And I'm not just saying that, I've tried blind tests of them both. Plus I'm a bit of a collector as well. |

If you are a collector, then go for the CE-1. The CE-1 has the vintage mojo. |

The CE-1 has been described as "the chorus pedal god would use" but there also have been reports of impedence issues with it and the guitar..i.e it distorting the signal a little bit....basically i love my CE-2 and i have a TR-2 which i also like so unless i picked one up for a reasonable price personally i wouldn't bother and i certainly would not pay to outrageous prices on evilbay.....if i just had to have the sound of one i would go with Big Boss Mans rec on the retro-sonic...i'm not 100% on this but i didn't think you could use both effects together with the CE-1....?....... |

Wow, Franzoni I have never heard it put in such a powerful sentence .
Where did you read that comment.. I like it.
Does that also mean, I'm six steps closer to the man himself, with my humble collection of CE-2's?

Hi Doc..i think i read it in an interview with the guy from the gigrig company that designs the loop units for vintage effects... he's a big fan of pedals in general and i'm fairly sure he said it or possibly was quoting someone elso.... but i thought it summed things up about what most people think of the CE-1. ..except for the outrageous prices.. .i also remember an interview with Chris Rea who has one on his board going out to two Fender amps where he said something about switching the chorus on to get a 'crunchy' sound and then his CS-2 to try to smooth things out....possibly something to do with the impedence issues and guitars...but i thought that it was a bit strange to say something like that about a chorus pedal.....and to think i passed up on some of these on evilbay when they were going for 200 quid...... .....
P.S... maybe some of the other guys upstairs can't afford evilbay prices for a CE-1 either. .i would keep some of those MIJ CE-2's handy for St Peter to make sure you get in the gate.... ..... |

Clapton used a CE-3 for a while in the 90's after he started getting away from the rack stuff, now he uses a leslie cab and a marshall head for his chorus effect..he has also been seen using a TR-2 for some of the songs off his last couple of albums that have a fair bit of tremolo in them..... ...... |
