Hi all you techies!
I would like as much input on how to and which are the best boss pedals to modify. Opinions on mods v other mods v no mods would be awesome!
I have a Boss CE-2 Black Label Japan - 308100 and a BD-2 with monte allums mods.
Let battle commence!

| Rule 1: Never mod a silver screw, long dash pedal. Nor mod a CE-2. |

Here is a previous thread on this topic... http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5461
The best candidates for modding are current model pedals (so that if it goers wrong, you can just go buy an excat duplicate pedal).
Lots of mods out there for the DS-1, MT-2, etc. |

I agree mod new pedals vs old valueable ones. A good start is a ds-1 it's the cheapest priced boss pedal, and the is tons of mods for it.2nd would be the sd-1 i think it's a little easier to mod and tons of mods for that |

Any opinions on the modding of the DS-1? What are the best options and ease of moddifying? In my opinion they don't sound great. Regards Patrick |

This is one of the "standard" DS-1 mods.

Hi Patrick The tried 7 true SEM is considered very highly on this forum, as well as other pedal sites.
Please also consider the "Melan Head" DS-1 mod. In my personal opinion, one of the best DS-1 mods I have heard. There are some links & linked audio demo's to it in the: ---Pedal Mods Pages - Links sticky topic.--- http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4372&whichpage=2
There are some other ones in there as well. There is even al comment form Melan Head himself.
Overall there are 4 pages in the thread to read covering a lot of mods, for other pedals as well.
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi, I have several DS-1's so I think I'll mod as many as I can with different mods and compare them (my brother in law is very willing to do the work).
Does the DS-1 have any differences in the older and new taiwan versions that might infringe on modifications?
Regards Patrick |

I see no reason to mod my CE-2 or my BF-2.
I've had succersful results modding a CS-3 (Allums Opto mod), but I'm not much of a compressor guy, so it's gone.
I wish had a case each of DS-1s and SD-1s around for various modding experiments. The Monte Allums DS-1 Recto Mod is way better than the Keeley SEM/Ultra. The DS-1 is a pretty good mod platform, but a tad limiting. It seems that you can have volume and touch sensitivity (usually by raising the clipping diode voltage w. LEDs and such) OR you can have distortion, but there' a trade-off between the two. I think that's the downside of only having a single op amp gain stage.
I've had great results with SD-1's: Allums GT Mod, a DIY mod that was similar but didn't go as far. My current SD-1 is the Brian Wampler's Eternity mod, which I love. However, I re-modded my GT mod pedal to make it, so now I don't have that one any more. I need to get a few more SD-1s to play with. |
