Tough luck.. that dosn't look pretty.
I have an MIT HM-2 in a very good condition (although the bottom plate isn't very pretty - had the rubber torn off and velcro attached ). I could sell it to you for 20$ - but I think shipping cost would be greater than that.
I suggest you hunt for a HM-2 with a good casing - maybe you can find a defect one with a good casing - and then just switch the casing. Without box they usually come pretty cheap. The try to sell the rest as spare parts, experiment with modding the extra PCB or whatever..
Have you contacted seller - maybe his willing to take it back?
EDIT: check http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=874 - you can see that you can pick one up for a good prize.
Cheers

| Just curious.....why did you give him positive feedback? He has a perfect score, maybe he didn't know about the defects. Just a thought...still a bummer. |

Sometimes it may be better to have a HM-2 where the outside shows all the scars of some serious beating but the insides are pretty much untouched by the vicious attacks.
How does one know? Yep it is a gamble, but if your pedal works I would not worry too much about some little accid scars. I am sure you do have some mint pedals in your collection, so some "less minty" ones make a good variation on the theme.
True, bummer that a seller does this to you, I had this once as well and asked for the seller to refund me some of the monies as the pedal was sold to me as new but did show some minor signs of wear and tear. Seller was not impressed with my request, and as a result he did not give me any feedback at all. I just gave him his positive markings as I felt we could solve this matter between us in stead of getting the Ebay Police in action.
Hope seller can still sleep well and is not too troubled by his Karma

I left the feedback prior to checking it out. I have company in town, I just opened the box, from the top it looks mint. I left positive feedback and didn't really check it until late last night.

I contacted the guy and this is what he said:
"This Item was sold to me as new..In fact it had plastic around and I paid as much for it as you did! I do remember the battery was really old and removed it as it seemed to have been decaying,,,I am sorry I did not mean to mislead you it was new and I really didnt pay attention to the insides...If you feeled burrned I did not intend that...The pedal is new I guess like you say some compartment corrosion....If you fell I misguided you I would send you a money order if you send the pedal back...Like I said though this is not a used pedal it is new..sorry for your troubles"
So, it looks like I can send it back, but I can't believe the guy still goes on about it being "New" when it's in that poor condition.
I don't use distortion boxes, just overdrives. I was wanting this just to have it. Oh well....this is only the 2nd time since 1999 I ever got burned on eBay, so not a bad run I guess. |

Well it is fair that the seller offers you your money back, and in this case you may want to do so as HM-2 are very common and cost about as much as you paid for this one.
I know it is weird to hear that people do not notice such major imperfections. Well it just goes to show that sellers look at pedals with different eyes that us users/collectors.
In my case the pedal was a DC-3, less common and they usually go for a faily high price, liked the pedal and can live with the minor scratches. I just think it is unfair to mislead someone to tell it is new but sell them something which is second hand. As an excuse the seller mentioned that he went through a huge list of items when he was putting this pedal up for sale, so he felt he had just made a mistake. He also offered me to sent it back for a complete refund but I just wanted him to regonise his mistake by taking some of the money of the final bidprice. I was thinking of about 15,- off the price, but that fell on deaf ears in this case.
So will you go for the option of "Item back, money back" or will you just clean up the interior of the pedal and forget about it?

the only way to survive on eBay is to ask ALL sellers the following questions
Even though your listing says mint can you please confirm 1. There have been no modifications to the pedal 2. The bottom label is intact, no velcro attached 3. The unit is made in japan 4. There is no corossion in the battery box 5. Please provide the serial number 6. Are there any unusual scuffs or marks, anti-theft markings 7 And, can you confirm that the pedal function as it should no noisy pots or broken jacks!
I have found that you can do 2 or 3 good transactions, then you forget to ask the seller and something will be missing never fails.
The fact of the matter is that most sellers dont' really pay much attention to detail or have limited knowledge of what they are selling. Also, anyone lookin to buy a 25 year old pedal probably is pretty sure ofwhat to look for, and unfortunately, think the seller is operating on the same standard. Not so.
So, everytime you ask the above questions, while it feels like a pain to do so, you will invariably find out that the Bottom Label is missing, the serial number is missing, or the battery snap has been cut off etc etc etc.
I had bought a "MINT" RV-3 and and it arrived without bottom label . I just resold it as soon as it came. The seller who bought it from me basically asked if it was really mint, and I detailed back in email and said no bottom sticker.
he bought it, and once he got it, he emailed me back that it wsa the first ebayer in 5 years who told him the truth.
So, you cannot avoid asking specific questions if it is something you want. |

I'm not going to waste the time and maybe further problems, it works and it was only $50. I'll just clean it up and maybe give it to my nephew. He is just getting into playing guitar, he may enjoy it.
starr36 great advise! I will use that question list from now on! Thanks! |

Agree with you wholeheartly, but there will be times sellers will not anwers any of those questions because they may not care, or just feel you are not really interested in the pedal. Okay so in this case you could forget to bid, or just try and see...........................
